But later, Simon conceded to Democratic foe Gray Davis, who won re-election by about five percentage points. Republicans were thwarted by Democratic strongholds like L.A. and San Francisco.

Simon won in nearly all of the inland precints. The map is quite instructive. The flyover country starts a few miles inland - LA alone put Davis over the top. It's the city residents, gubmint workers, welfare recipients, students and other beneficiaries of the unending gubmint programs who elected Davis buying themselves 4 years of hostility, open or otherwise, between Sacramento and Washington. Smart, real smart!

As stated in other posts, the races for state offices were very close. CA gained 2 assembly seats, lost no state senate seats.

It's like the pendulum had already reached its climax on the upswing for Dems and is hovering and starting (slowly at first, but will gain momentum) swinging back to the GOP.

Another thread has a discussion about who will try to unseat Babs Boxer in 04. Mary Bono was named as an early challenger. Perhaps the Republican candidate should not be completely self-selecting. Maybe this would be a good job for Karl Rove, Ratbuster (Who ya gonna call?). His stock as a candidate picker is currently through the roof.

I'm afraid you're right. The only way for California to come back to the nation is for it to completely capitulate. People there will never learn until their socialist utopia completely disintegrates itself.
