With Phoenix building resorts nearby, Manross said, a smoking ban could damage a cornerstone of Scottsdale tourism.
But just think of the millions of non-smoking tourists who will flock to Scottsdale to vacation in a smoke free zone!
Yea, right.

Peoria Councilman Bob Barrett asked whether the cities should approach the Legislature to take the lead on a statewide ban. Officials in the room burst into laughter.
Best line in the article.
That's the Arizona I remember, from 7 years in Tempe during the Frank Kush administration <)B^).

Council members for Peoria and Glendale, which are exploring a possible ban, called the meeting because businesses in cities that have adopted tough bans, such as Tempe, complain that patrons take their business to bordering cities.Well then Tempe ought to rescind their smoking ban if they want the patrons to come back to Tempe businesses.

Mayors and officials of nine Valley cities and towns on Thursday agreed that a regional or statewide smoking ban is needed to prevent some cities from losing money to competitors. Ah yes. The Level Playing Field.
What are they going to do about the VFW's, American Legions, and the like? These are members only! How about all the smokers just join these clubs and give our money to those that deserve it.
