liberal lurkers
seem to be coming out of the wood work!
Many seem to want our guy to make NO MISTAKES and be totally pure! i.e. Being a businessman, makes him unpure because the other side (the proifessional politicians ) can say he is a capitalists who profits at the expense of people.
Shades of communism!
Excellent point. Or Bill Clinton either, right? My guess would be that Davis had to look up the word, HONOR in the dictionary before uttering the word.
Where is the l;ogic in that?
The Simon and Davis supporters will stick to their men. The question is, how will moderate/independent voters react to this. Not well for Simon, I suspect.
At least Simon is working hard to make the Libertarian's Druid spitter look good by comparison, :-)
That's exactly what folks here thought Chief Pennington was when he did much the same thing -- and totally wrecked his campaign in the process -- regarding some Breaking News announcement of malfeasance on the part of now-Mayor Nagin.
Some very able FReepers established at the get-go that the photo was probably genuine. So the location of the painting was the location of the photo. This is investigation 101. I agree with those who say Simon's staff let him down -- and he failed his own prosecutorial experience under Guilliani.
With that said, Simon still can win this race. His poll numbers have just moved up. He needs to go on the attack, and attack, and attack, because Davis is more crooked than a dog's hind leg. And he has to be ready to use the Nathanson Memo as well as Forrester used the Chang Memo. It's nearly a direct match in content, and therefore in effectiveness.
We, meaning the whole nation including California, need a Republican veto in the Governor's chair in California. Simon is the only option to get that. Crying over the split milk of Jones or Riodan will not obtain that result.

Davis is corrupt and unprincipled, but he doesn't strike me as a lightweight. He's a seasoned politico. And FWIW, I think Davis is a Vietnam combat veteran, unlike softy rich-boy Simon.
By contrast, Riordan was reported to be a self-made millionaire. Both Davis and Riordan have more "gravitas" than Simon, and it shows.
If California election were today, Simon would probably win: Dick Morris

Appearing on Mark Larson's Larson Live! radio show (KRLA 870AM Los Angeles, KCBQ 1170AM San Diego and KRLH 590AM in Riverside and San Bernardino) this morning, political strategist Dick Morris was asked about the California governor's race.
Noting that the current polls give Davis 45% to Simon's 35%, Morris said that with numbers like that, if the election were held today then Simon would likely win by a small margin.Morris said that an incumbent (Davis) must get credibly close to 50% to have a reasonable chance of victory. The reason is that the challenger has less name recognition among undecided voters, who are likely to break to the challenger as they become more familiar with him.
Morris says that, as an experienced campaigner, Davis is well aware of this. Davis is presently calling on Simon to step down after the latest gaffe regarding the illegal fundraising accusations by Simon. Morris said that Davis "being all over Simon" should be regarded as more of a measure of Simon's strength than his weakness.

I stopped engaging the naysayers. They are quitters, IMHO. Like the Rats and Toricelli.See also this WONDERFUL image from a similarly difficult (but WINNABLE) race in New Jersey:
This race is far from over, indeed, Simon is going to win. Watch... - eureka!
