"The evidence is unequivocal that second-hand smoke kills tens of thousands of Americans every year," said legislator Brian Foley, one of the bill's sponsors.

Apparently one of the benefits of being a Democrat is not being challenged by the media when you make up statistics and call them "unequivocal".

"The evidence is un equivocal that second-hand smoke kills tens of thousands of Americans every year," said legislator Brian Foley, one of the bill's sponsors. "This legislation is a rare opportunity whereby passing a resolution we can actually save control many, many lives."

There, I fixed his statement so that he says what he means.
You're right, She, it does get old but we have to keep on keepin' on. After all, with all the taxes on tobacco nowadays, "It's for the children."

This public meeting got lots of air time on Long Island's local News12 channel.

It was loud and boisterous, and even appeared to begin outside the building. It looked like a large crowd with lots of people on both sides. Interestingly, there was one group of children who were backing the ban. From what I could see on the news clips, most of them were minority kids -- and the public meeting portion began at 2:30. Shouldn't they be in school? Of COURSE they should! What in the hell were they doing THERE?!

I actually have hope for Suffolk County, as I've spoken to two sponsoring legislators (including my own). Both of them told me they put their names on the legislation to hopefully water it down drastically. We'll see how well they do with that endeavor. Both of them were also appalled at the obvious collusion between all the downstate counties to ram this all through within days of each other. I mentioned that if these separate governments had been businesses instead, they'd all be facing RICO charges. It's obscene.

Regards,

There is unequivocal evidence the Brian Foley's brain died fifteen years ago!

There! I, too, can make asinine statements which might be true, but are not based on verified "facts".

I however, am not about to suggest making state law based on my ignorance.
