On the other hand you never see pro-gun advocates sucking the brains out of nearly born infants.
1. There is no real danger to unborn children if there mother smoke.
2. People that criticize mothers that smoke should mind their own business.
If your argument includes #1, then I think that should be the debate. Go ahead and try to make the case that smoking does not harm the unborn.
But if you are arguing #2 without establishing #1, then you are saying nothing other that "it's my body, so it's my choice."
And to go just one step further, if a non- (or anti-, whatever) smoker confronts a pregnant woman who is smoking based on a good faith belief that the smoking is harming the child, isn't that person defending the unborn? If you have a response to them, shouldn't it be only to inform them that they have been "duped" by the anti-smoking forces on this issue?
Push all you want, Your Pomposity.
I've stated my opinion.
If you have a response to them, shouldn't it be only to inform them that they have been "duped" by the anti-smoking forces on this issue?
Is there an echo in here? So glad my point got through.
And regardless of your yeoman-like efforts, the topic of this thread is still not about pregnancy and smoking. It's about the demonization of smoking and smokers.
Nevertheless all things happen for a reason. God doesn't tempt, so I wouldn't interpret this as God judging her, but then again many times God simply lets those who are rebellious, suffer at their hands and those of others.
But if I were the woman, considering she received physical harm, I'd take it more seriously than just some nut with a gun.
You must be a genius to be able to create an atomic bomb. I couldn't tell it from the logic of your posts but since the government will never sell one to you and you are so damned smart, if you can invent one, be my guest.
So did I, and my daughter is 38 and healthy, thank God. I also drank coffee, beer and 7&7, although not too much of the last. The world has become a lunatic asylum and the lunatics are in charge.

I appreciate the gist of your argument, that the anti-tobacco campaign is getting ridiculously out of hand. I concur. However it is hard for me to sympathize with someone who would place more importance on continuing a self-destructive habit than to temporarily curb said habit for the good of their unborn child.

So ... it's not possible to say for sure what race the killer is. The complete absence of any mention of race is noteworthy and suspicious. What I personally find rather pertinent about these stories is that there is no mention whatsover of the biological father of either the victim or the killer. The politically correct newspaper writers do not, of course, discuss this in any way.

I surely don't have to justify myself to you, but I want to tell you: ITS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! GET OFF THE BUS!
Well, they THINK they are in charge. Actually, they are just lunatics. Wanting to control everyone's life. Well, do I have news for THEM! heh!
These loonies who shoot and/or stomp to death someone over cigarettes need to be locked up!
Smoking is no more harmful for a pregnant woman then a pregnant woman gouging herself with food and putting on 60 pounds which causes all KINDS of health dangers! For her AND for her baby!
My one friend didn't smoke but she ate until she weighed in at 210! The Doctor had to give her a C-Section a month early because the baby was in danger of the mother giving birth. So, don't tell ME that smoking can be worse. This gal was at great risk! And so was her baby!
WRONG - you (meanings anti-smokers) have made the statement AS FACT that smoking harms the unborn - it is your responsibility to make the case this is so.
If, as is claimed by the anti-smokers that maternal smoking while pregnant is SO detrimental to the unborn - why are their so many healthly and successful baby-boomers being productive members of society?
Who died and left you in charge? - HOW DARE you decide what another should or should not do.
You are insulting and owe each one of us an apology.
Who are you to judge how other people choose to live their lives????
OUCH SheLion - I put on about 55 pounds when I was pregnant - can you picture me weighing in at 170????
A week later I was down at 130 and by the time I went for my 6 week check-up I was back at my fighting weight of 115 - and lest anyone else forget - I'm 5 foot 10!!!!!
But all kidding aside........there are a myriad of health dangers for everyone, including pregnant women, that never BOTHERED anyone a generation or two ago. Our grandmothers that drank alcohol, smoked and ate beef while pregnant gave birth to our healthy parents, who in turn gave birth to us their healthy offspring, who have now given birth to our own healthy offspring.
I'm actually starting to wonder if these health freaks aren't actually creating a generation of sickly kids right on their own. It sure seems the generations of kids of smokers and drinkers are doing very well.
