Anti-smoking measure under review by CLO
THE Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance of Davao City which was earlier passed by the city council has been officially transmitted to City Hall.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte said the ordinance is now undergoing review by the City Legal Office. Under the law, he is mandated to act on it in 15 days.
"Wala pa," (No) Duterte said Monday when asked if has already signed the ordinance into a law.
The ordinance, authored by SP Majority Floor leader Bonifacio E. Militar, practically seeks to limit number of places in the city where one can smoke cigarettes or cigars.
As mandated in the ordinance, even smoking in parks, being a public place, will now be prohibited.
The measure was crafted to reinforce Duterte's hard line policy against smoking.
Militar said as soon as Duterte signs the ordinance, it will be sent back to the legislative body for its publication, and for the SP to cause the holding of seminars to implementing lawmen.
Militar said it will take 60 days before the law takes effect.
