[history]
State officials allowed one of California's largest polluters to increase toxic discharges into San Francisco Bay shortly after the company donated $70,500 to Gov. Gray Davis, a Mercury News investigation has found.
The decision by a key state water board in June 2000 came just four months after the board had refused to relax the pollution permit at Tosco's Avon refinery east of Martinez -- and after the company had tried unsuccessfully to get the rules eased for seven years.

Grey(out) Davis could be in some hot water over this. Could be a good thing for the state.

Don't count on it. In every election California voters re-prove themselves to be very stupid compared to cows.

Shakedowns, extortion, blackmail, payoffs = organized crime has nothing on the Demonazi's!
People don't realize that the laws of this country have small print that say:
If you pay a communist / organized crime boss enough protection money (campaign contributions), you won't be held to the same rules and laws that the "little guys" are forced to abide by.
Just look at Enron and Global Crossings and Robert Rubin and Red Davis' polluters' payoffs if you doubt it.

Prior to the energy crisis in California Davis was collecting funds from whomever and whatever he pleased. With his huge war chest there was no one who could beat him, and with a captive press his re-election seemed 100% secure.
Hubris will get you in trouble every time. Just ask the Greeks.

``There is no way in the world that contribution had anything to do with policy, because it is public for all the world to see,
Eric, you are right. It is SOP in California. My question is this; What do they do when it is not public for all the world to see?

Yes, It has been pretty dry for a few days Davi$ news-wise .. It really sucks that the media gives Davi$ a ride for all of his self-serving power-mongering egotistical boondoggling ways ..
Oh Well. At least, Simon is still in the race after getting gutted in public by the IRS and KPMG.
DUMP DAVI$ & the Den of Socialists
GO SIMON

I really don't think this is going to matter. As much as I want Simon to win, I don't think he will. I saw him on the local news this weekend and all I can say about that guy is that he is a total stiff. Maybe I caught him on a bad day, but seeing him try to interact with the masses was painfully uncomfortable. I thought he was laying low until later in the year, but now I'm starting to think that his strategy is to simply be the invisible man. Regardless, I don't think he's going to win. I hope I'm wrong.

Davis may make a good Veep for Hillary

``There is no way in the world that contribution had anything to do with policy, because it is public for all the world to see,'' said Davis spokesman Steve Maviglio. ``Any allegation to that effect is ludicrous.'' Ah, one of my favorite games to play, spot the weasel words. The allegation is that the donation affected a DECISION, not the underlying POLICY. This is just too easy...

I hope my fellow citizens in Kalifornia have the good sense to DUMP DAVIS!! The one's with good sense will try.
Alas, there are not enough of those types in Callifornica. The RAT power base could care less about this...as a matter of fact, it's a badge of honor to them.

Jessie Jackson could take a lesson !

"Davis officials say there is no connection between the donation and the decision to allow Tosco to increase its dioxin releases five-fold."'COURSE NOT! Who ever heard of a Democrat breaking the rules in exchange for a big donation?? I mean...Democrats are the PEOPLE'S PARTY!!

It's ironic that the enviro wacko's who got Davis into office and set the stage for Kalifornia's energy crunch are now turning against him. Of course, I doubt they'll be so angry that they'll vote for the Grey One's Republican opponent.
