Court documents show parents, uncle had role in death
According to court records from the Magistrate court in Dona Ana County, here are the events that led up to the murder of 5-month old Brianna Lopez.

Wednesday, July 24, 2002 --

• Thursday night, July 18th, at 6 p.m., Andy Walters stopped to buy a case of beer, and headed home to 5243 Comanche Trail in Las Cruces.
  
  
• Three people-- Walters, 21, Stephanie Lopez, 19, and her twin brother Steven Lopez, 19, drink through the evening.
  
  
• Stephanie went to bed after about three beers. According to court documents, Andy Walters and Steven Lopez admitted to playing with Stephanie and Walters's 5-month old daughter, Brianna.
  
  
• Police records show that Walters and Lopez threw the child into the air, causing her to hit her head on the ceiling 3 times, then dropped her twice on the floor.
  
  
• Andy Walters told investigators that Brianna was conscious and crying.
  
  
• At around 12:30 a.m., Friday morning, Andy Walters fell asleep not knowing where Brianna was.
  
  
• At three in the morning, Walters says he awoke to find Brianna on the floor near the bed. He said he wrapped her in a blanket and put her in a bouncer.
  
  
• By 7 a.m., Brianna needed a diaper change. Stephanie Lopez asked about the bruises on Brianna, and according to court documents, Walters admitted that he and Steven Lopez "played a little rough with her".
  
  
• Walters changed the diaper and took a baby wipe, wrapped it around his index finger and inserted it into brianna's anus.
  
  
• The complaint also states Andy Walters admitted he bit Brianna on several occasions, but he told Dona Ana County Sheriff's Deputies he is not not the only family member to bite Brianna.
  
  
• Walters also told authorites that Stephanie Lopez pinched and threw Brianna out of frustration.
  
  
• The uncle, Steven Lopez, admits to throwing Brianna in the air and not catching her. Steven Lopez claims to have drunk ten beers the previous night.
  
  
• During his interview with Sheriff's Deputies, Steven Lopez admitted to having sex with Brianna Lopez.
  
  
• By 10 a.m., July 19th, Stephanie Lopez checks on her daughter, notices Brianna is not breathing, and she calls 9-1-1.
  
  
• 11:10 am, Friday July 19th, five month old Brianna Lopez died at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces.
  
  
• Autopsy results show Brianna Lopez had 11 bite marks on her body, broken ribs, skull fractures, bleeding of the optic nerves and brain swelling.

I can hardly imagine restraining myself from taking justice into my own hands

While I think you are trying to hijack this thread, and also though I doubt you really espouse the ideas you are sharing, I have to essentially agree with your sentiment. This is a monstrous crime but you don't see anyone blaming alcohol for it, like you would see if these monsters had been snorting coke or smoking grass.

However, I cringe when I see people on threads say "Well, heroin is the reason that guy cut those people's heads off." Anyone who says "such and such drug made that person kill or whatever" is minimizing the evil of the criminal in an attempt to advance their agenda - just as you have done, though I suspect your agenda is not the reenactment of alcohol prohibition.

Booze was not responsible for this crime - the evil of the perpertrators was. While I do not think you are foolish or a jerk as others have said, you should use more tact as you advance your agenda, whatever it is.

Well, I know of a case in either Albuquerque or S. F. (can't recall which) where a 17-year old baby-killer was sentenced, as a juvenile, to probation. The claim was, as the mother's boyfriend, "he was put into a situation he wasn't mature enough to deal with" because he often baby-sat for the child.
I began baby-sitting at age 12.

The Scum of the Earth

All too frequently we wake up to the morning news shows to find that another innocent child has been abducted by some depraved unspeakably evil monster who usually ends up raping and killing them.

Can you imagine the horror and the unbelievable pain that a five year old girl would suffer being raped by a grown man? Stop and think about the unthinkable agony these innocent little bodies are put through before death mercifully takes them out of this nightmare.

What kind of person could do this? What kind of perverted bucket of slop could bring themselves to visit such pain and degradation on innocent children? I’ll tell you who. Someone who’s completely sold out to the devil. Someone who is wicked beyond description and in many cases, people who have been let to slip through society’s justice with minor jail terms, probation and other meaningless slaps on the wrist, becoming bolder and bolder until they finally become so calloused that they can mutilate and murder innocence and walk away to do it again and again until they are finally caught.

Where do these people come from and why are they let go until they ruin a family’s life? The reason in my estimation is that our politically correct society is so concerned about the rights of perverts that they overlook the obvious fact that they are loose cannons, wanton predators who need to be taken off the streets no matter what it takes.

What about the rights of our children? Don’t they have a right to play in their own front yards without fear of being kidnapped, tortured, raped and murdered by these heartless predators? Don’t they deserve justice for having their lives cut short and dying a death so horrible that we can’t even imagine it?

It’s maddening to me to think that judges in California are worried about having “Under God” in our Pledge of Allegiance and of all things, the rights of Al Qaida murderers, while our streets are being roamed by the worst kind of depraved pigs.

A child molester is not going to stop, they will keep on and on until somebody finally pulls the plug on them.

I am asking every decent American who loves your children and grandchildren to stand up and be counted on this issue. Let your elected officials know how you feel about these people and demand that something be done about it.

In a lot of cases we know who they are, they’ve molested children before and we refuse to do anything with them.

These people deserve no consideration, they are time bombs waiting to explode and should be closely watched from the earliest offense. They should be publicly identified and the neighborhoods they live in should be officially notified that a known child molester is living among them.

They should have to wear tracking devices and if they are caught in the proximity of a school yard or kindergarten they should be hauled off to jail.

I know that some of these things are already in effect in a limited way but what I’m calling for is a national registry of known child molesters and their addresses. I know the A.C.L.U. would have a conniption fit but who gives a damn. Who is the A.C.L.U. compared to the safety of our children?

I believe that a mandatory death penalty should be given to anyone who kidnaps, rapes or kills a child. And if you’re one of the people who think that I’’m being too harsh try to imagine the last several hours of the little Runnion girl’s life, her little body being violated by a grown man. We’ll never know what he did to her. We’ll never know the absolute horror and excruciating pain this precious little one suffered at the hands of this sick slob.

I say catch him, try him and burn him, I don’t care how insane his lawyers claim he is he doesn’t deserve to live anymore.

Child molestation should be a federal crime, giving these pus balls no place to hide.

These little ones can’t defend themselves, it is up to us to do something about it.

Keep a close watch on your children when you’re in public. Hold the hands of the little ones and don’t let even the older ones get out of your eyesight.

These people are prowling and watching for an unguarded moment when they can grab another innocent child.

Let’s put a stop to it.

Sentenced to life long prison and then executed by either hanging, chopping their heads off or anything except leathal injection unless a very big needle is used sounds fine to me

Can you explain, please? You do or DON'T have the death penalty in New Mexico? And if you do, what are the parameters under which the death penalty can be administered? Do you currently have any on death row? Do you know what the average time a killer sits on death row?

The parameters are not entirely clear to me, but are apparently vague enough that prosecutors don't try to get the death penalty for fear of blowing the case. We have folks on death row, but have only had one execution since 1976 (I think) and that was a child rapist/murderer who practically had to beg for it to be done. Not only that but the lawyers and liberals drag out every legal and BS excuse in these cases.
