Homosexual Researchers Debunk ‘Born Gay’ Urban Legend

Washington, DC – Urban Legends are extremely difficult to stop once they’ve reached the email circuit or the Internet. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), for example, still receives thousands of petitions each year from Christians who have been told that Madalyn Murray O’Hair is trying to get all Christian programming removed from TV and radio. Mrs. O’Hair has been dead for many years now, but the petitions continue to reach the FCC from alarmed Christians.

Emails and the Internet contribute to the spread of urban legends, but these information sources are also useful in helping us dispel urban legends. Traditional Values Coalition has recently launched its own urban legend site to debunk misinformation spread by homosexual activist organizations about the nature and prevalence of homosexuality in our culture. Our Homosexual Urban Legend site has just added a new legend that needs to be debunked: The claim that homosexuals are “born gay” and that homosexuality is fixed and unchangeable from birth.

The “Born Gay” urban legend is actually being exposed as false by homosexual researchers themselves. Homosexual researcher Dean Hamer, for example, notes that homosexuality is not “purely genetic…environmental factors play a role. There is not a single master gene that makes people gay.” Homosexual researcher Simon LeVay, who attempted to find a genetic basis for homosexuality by examining the differences in the hypothalamus between “homosexual” and “heterosexual” males, has written: “I didn’t show that gay men are born that way, the most common mistake people make in interpreting my work. Nor did I locate a gay center in the brain.”

Therapists who treat men and women struggling with same-sex attractions say that there are several consistent factors that contribute to the emergence of homosexuality: gender confusion in childhood, a failure to internalize maleness, and sexual abuse by a same-sex predator. Dr. Gregory Dickson, whose doctoral thesis is on the relationship between a mother and son in the development of homosexuality, found that 49% of the homosexuals he surveyed said they had been molested, compared to less than 2% of heterosexuals. Other research confirms what therapists have known for decades: Homosexuals are made, not born. And they are frequently “made” by older men who molest them as youngsters.

Counselor Dr. Robert Hicks, author of The Masculine Journey has some sobering thoughts on the real origins of homosexual attractions: “…In counseling gay men for twenty years, I have not had one yet whom I would say had a normative childhood or normative adolescent development in the sexual arena. More often than not I have found stories of abusive, alcoholic, or absent (physically and emotionally) fathers; stories of incest or first experiences of sex forced upon them by older brothers, neighborhood men, or even friends. I sometimes find these men have been early exposure to pornography….” It is worth repeating: Homosexuals are made, not born.

This may not be good news to hardened homosexual activists who continue to engage in life-threatening behaviors. It should be good news to those men and women who struggle with same-sex attractions but who wish to lead normal lives. Organizations like Exodus International and the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality are available to help free these individuals from same-sex attractions and a sexual behavior that can ultimately kill them.

Christians who oppose homosexuality are frequently accused of being unloving, but there is nothing more loving than helping a person to become free of a life-controlling and self-destructive behavior. How many more patches will be added to the AIDS Quilt before someone says enough is enough: Homosexuality kills.

Hey Moscow, respectfully, bite me on the crank. We are talking about the supposed origins of homosexuality and fee will. Having been raised in a family rife with homosexuals, I do believe I have an insight that is important to the argument.

I have read all 3 of John Douglas' books on Sexual Homicide and serial killers and one thing is certain: At some point in their fantasy development, a serial killer experiences what Douglas calls a triggering event and he kills to try and fulfill his fantasy. From that point on there is no turning back, no choosing to be good from then on.The compulsion to kill controls them for the rest of their lives. Douglas goes on to say that the only thing you can do at that point, and remember that he interviewed scores of these maniacs, is kill them.

There was a study released recently, I can't recall the source, that indicated Homosexual men processed information differently in their brains. It was in a Scientific Journal and wasn't bogus. There ARE biological differences between SOME homosexuals and normal males.

Being a rational, thoughtful conservative ought to include a bit of sympathy and tolerance for others who are different.

Most conservatives have no problem with gays doing whatever it is they do in the privacy of their own homes. However, when they choose to try to force their immorality on the rest of society, the ball-game changes completely. When they try to force society to change thousands of years of tradition to accept that gay liaisons are the moral equivalent of marriage, conservative get rightfully angry. When homosexual activists try to introduce the subject to school children as young as five, conservatives will demand that they stop.

This is no longer a question of 'tolerance.' Individuals with SSAD are tolerated. This is a wholesale cultural shift supported by the media and cultural 'elites' that 80-90% of us regular folks oppose. This is a question of conservatives rising up in opposition to a radical, evangelical religion of homosexuality that can bear no criticism.

If homosexuality is "unnatural" why do we see it in nature? I remember my neighbor's bird dogs when I was growing up that seemed naturally inclined to bugger each other when given the chance.

This is not a strong argument. Animals do all sorts of things that humans find abhorrent, including cannibalism and eating their own vomit. Why would anyone be surprised if they bugger each other too? Men in prison bugger each other and I don't see many people claiming that's genetic...

Doubtful. If you've ever read anything about the Jesuit missionary martyrs in 17th century Canada, these men had much bigger things to worry about than buggery. And they faced them with a courage, faith, and determination that makes ordinary people like me ashamed of myself.

While I agree that many become homosexual for a variety of psychological reasons, It's my observation that there are also others who were, indeed, born that way. There may not be a "gay gene", but perhaps some other factor that results in this birth defect. Perhaps some kind of vitamin deficiency or hormonal imbalance in the mother during pregnancy.

Hmmmmm......interesting. One problem, though. Many lesbians feel that they are gay because of sexual abuse by adult "straight" men (members of the opposite sex).

It's not a problem at all. You might have a point if men and women were exactly identical in how they develop psychologically and physiologically. Of course, they aren't. Isn't it interesting that homosexuals of both sexes seem to BOTH be victims of predatory older men in their childhood? Any lightbulbs going off there?

I couldnt agree more. At my stepfathers funeral 5 years ago, my uncle who was 55 at the time, confided in my younger brother that he was gay and had been all his life. He had been married 3 times and each wife left him for the obvious reason. He tried as hard as he could to be " straight " and do the right thing. It made him miserable. He was a life long drug addict and a drunk. He died of a drug overdose last Feb. at the age of 60.

Look, take your straw man and beat it. It has been said over and over ad nauseam that nobody cares what you people are doing in your bedrooms. We DO care when you try to force your immorality on us with phony wedding ceremonies that must be given the force of law, with fisting/oral sex 'teach-ins' in the schools, with the insistence on homosexual scoutmasters, clergy, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Forgive me, but this is the statement of a defeatist and a pessimist. Tell me, is it possible for alcoholics or drug addicts to reform their lives? Do you know what the first step is when someone goes to AA? With God, all things are possible.

The hypothesis is wrong the gene for male homosexuality can be passed on the female chromosome. That way it wouldn't be effected by natural selection. Also there seems to be some indication that the environment in the uterus namely hormone levels might effect this. Baldness in men seems to be determined by this mechanism as well as fingerprints etc. Why argue the point. It doesn't matter one way or the other. Buying into the lie that because homosexuality is an inborn condition it follows that the behaviorshould be acceptable is the our first mistake. Whether gays can be reconditioned into heterosexuals only interests me in an academic way. Gay activists by making gayness synonomous with race or skin color have been quite successful. This is the "Big Lie". Suppose we find a gene for criminality does that infer that criminality in the case of some individuals who happen to have the gene should be tolerated. How about alcoholism, should the behavior be tolerated because they have the gene. How about pedophilia, if they have the gene they are only acting in accordance with their nature. Don't you realize that pedophilia is only a sexual orientation and therefore has nothing to do with perversion. As a free society I think it's probably incumbent to tolerate homosexual behavior between two consenting adults or maybe even three or four. But as long as society continues to buy into this lie this lobby will continue to make progress in such a manner as they have whereby you can toss all sexual mores out the window and we'll have every perversion imaginable protected by some civil right.

An exhaustive study in The New England Journal of Medicine, medical literature's only study reporting on homosexuals who kept sexual "diaries," indicated the average homosexual ingests the fecal material of 23 different men each year. The same study indicated the number of annual sexual partners averaged nearly 100. Homosexuals averaged, per year, fellating 106 different men and swallowing 50 of their seminal ejaculations, and 72 penile penetrations of the anus.

How is 'accepting and approving' of someone in this lifestyle showing compassion or love. It's not. That's just the easy way out for those who have been convinced that there's no way to help their loved one break free of this psychological bondage. Homosexuality is a vile and horrible deathstyle.

Yes, homosexual behavior carries with it a health risk. As does promiscous heterosexual behavior, smoking, eating fatty food, and a litany of other things. It doesn't make them all immoral acts.
