In a related story, the governor also noted that "53 year olds don't have but one chance to be 53."

"The 4-year-olds have to have the teachers now. Four-year-olds don't have but one chance to be 4."

What a stupid statement. I once wrote a poem that said "Nothing is as final as the end." I thought it was cool, but I was a teenager...

Four-year-olds should be at home with Mom (as much as is possible).

You are looking at nothing more than Social Engineering of near toddlers! Four year olds should be at home with their mothers/fathers, not in some government run classroom.

Be very careful Parents, this is one more to-get-votes scheme that does not benefit your child.

How can people here in NC continue to support these Democrats? We elect Jesse Helms and then turn around and elect people like Easley, Edwards, Black, Basnight and their ilk.

Damn yellow dog idiots.

Just like Easley. Go into debt and expect someone else to pay for it.

I'm going drinking. Someone needs to buy me a bottle of Johnny Blue Label.

"[Easley] defended his authority, saying the current budget -- passed late last year when the state's economy looked better -- included money for adding teachers. "

So, of course, that justifies spending the money even though it is no longer available, with the state's economy in the tank, and the Governor doing *NOTHING WHATSOEVER* to market the state in an attempt to bring new jobs in for ANY industry other than gambling interests (i.e., lottery)!

Oh, but he's added a billion to the state's budget...

Sleasley's More at Four Program is nothing more than State subsidized child care for "At Risk Children"...translation: Welfare mothers.

Just one more benefit of voting for Democrats

No matter where you go, there you are.

And anyhow, you almost do not exist. Consider the multiplicity of locales where you aren't. Like, say, Madagascar. As far as Madagascar is concerned, you might as well be dead. In fact, since you are only present in one teensy place in the huge universe, the probability of your existence is virtually nil.

So why not kill yourself?...it would not make much of a difference...

Apologies to Stanislaw Lem for this botching of his humorous story.

Since it is not told in the article, and many may not know, Judge Howard Manning is a republican. Supposedly.

Up next will be Easleys program "Learning the ABC's by 3."

Which will be followed by "2 isn't too early."

Followed by "Learning is fun at 1."

And then the crowning achievment of the Easley Administration... "Be a winner in the womb."

What a total mess of garbage!!!

So they are going to raise taxes by delaying childcare tax credits and ending the marriage tax penalty???? GREAT for the children moves.

Just so they can create one more boondoggle education "program" for womb to the tomb, cradle to the grave, State controlled "care" for young children!

People in Massachussetts and California - North Carolina is hurrying to beat you out as the most taxbackward state in the Union!!!

Public education is a "sacred cow" that needs to be retired so fools like Easley will stop milking it for political gain.

The governro said..."Four-year-olds don't have but one chance to be 4."
**********
...and it is PRECISELY for that reason that they don't need to be forced into a government-run program to be sent to school and nto be ALLOWED to stay home. Socialism advances again.

I think in a few years, maternity wards will have two permanent government staff members... one abortionist standing over any mom in labor, hoping for an opportunity to stab the baby in the head as it exits the birth canal, and one NEA who will seize any babies that escape the first guy and whisk them away to an indoctrination facility a la Brave New World.

(/sarcasm) (I hope)

The rest comes from delaying a child-care tax credit and a credit for married couples who pay disproportionally more than single taxpayers in state taxes each year.

He is a pig sucker of our taxes. I want to hold an impeachment of this man. How dare he take my money to spend on useless programs. Child care and public schools is such a waste. They pipe crap into our kids heads that parents have to flush clean everyday.

My 4th grader would come home and tell me about the Global Warming problem and my 1st grader would tell me I cant cut the trees in my yard down because I will killing baby animals. HELP get rid of these Elected idiots vote for yourself in the write in space.

Conceptionee's have only one day as conceptionees- what is wrong with this liberal governor and his liberal legislators-what kind of non-state sanctioned knowledge are these conceptionees little minds going to be poisoned with between conception and state interception, at the advanced age of four? THe State may very well have missed the opportunity to totally possess the brain and soul of these little imps by that time, they could well be in the advanced stages of indepedent thought and morals by that time.

THe Government already confiscates the entire wage of the parents and gives back only what wise politicians deem as essential to survival-it must (for the sake of the children) now claim the child at conception as well and share only with the parents, whatever pride and pleasure of parenthood that does not distract from the plans of the state for the child.

More at four indeed-unless of course we're talking more at four seconds into conception here.

His order -- which puts 6,000 more at-risk 4-year-olds into classrooms and reduces class sizes statewide for kindergartners and first-graders -- will cost the state $54 million this year.

That comes to $9,000 per child. It would be cheaper to just mail the parents a check and have them go to a private preschool.
