The anti-smokers claim that nicotine is more addictive than cocaine or heroine. They also claim that for every increase in tobacco taxes there is a reduction in tobacco use. So, what we need to do is legalize cocaine and heroine, tack a hefty excise tax on it and increase that tax every 6 months or so. Voila no more addicts. It worked in Colonial America. They all stopped drinking tea on the same night.

Buy your cigarettes from the Indians here:http://www.indiansmokesonline. com/
All brands, no taxes.
I appreciate that link but I roll my own. Costs me about $150-$200 per year to smoke what would now cost over $2,700 in NYC by the pack.
See this thread.

So what is on this list that is "illegal" to sell a minor that is actually legal for them to be in possession of? Cigs, booze, porn, illegal drugs and perhaps nukes?
I have the feeling that caffeine use isn't being regulated strictly enough.

"Beam me up Smokey,..." "'He's dead, Jim. Take his 'Marlboro's.' "
(He had to take up smoking in self-defense, but it was the heat that got him in the end. Found him in the burning underbrush, they did.)

nimrod, the post is about RAISING the age limit to 21. YOUR kind of guy (authoritarian, liar, mis-representer of facts), Gantz, says it won't work. That "under-age" smokers will STILL get tobacco. In other words, prohibition is a failure, according to a prohibitionist.
I know of NO law that says a minor may not use tobacco; only that no one may sell to him or her. Please get your facts straight for once in your sad and hitherto useless life.

You always bring back grade-school memories with your verbiage.

Law Gives Teen Smokers Yet Another Reason To Kick The Habit.
The cost of cigarettes for teen smokers just went up -- to $75. That's the new penalty for possession of cigarettes by minors in California. Senate Bill 1849, which went into effect January 1, 1997, has made it illegal for anyone under 18 to possess tobacco products. The new law allows penalties of up to $75 for minors who are convicted of buying or possessing tobacco products and makes the maximum community service requirement 30 hours.

Well say. I have done virtually the same thing raising my three sons.
I think it is important, especially with young men, boys for that matter, to let them handle adult responsibilities as they wish to try.
You talk about building confidence, character, responsibility, and independence in our children, this is how you do it.
Alan Jackson says it quite simply, in his latest song:
"Daddy, let me drive"

As physicians we know that the window of danger with tobacco is four to six decades. Bwahahaha! You can almost dig into the stupidity like soft clay.
Anyone else remember the Mr Show bit about Imminent Death Syndrome?

Koretz's measure would be phased in so that it would not affect those 18 and older who now smoke. That's a very strange statement.
