O'Reilly: Bush Insider Claims Clinton Deal Torpedoed Pardongate

A Bush administration insider has privately leaked word that a deal was struck between Democratic congressional leaders and the Bush White House not to prosecute Bill and/or Hillary Clinton on an array of charges related to the Pardongate scandal, Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly claimed Friday on his nationally syndicated "Radio Factor" show.

"A very highly placed source - and I mean this guy knows what's going on in the Bush administration - told me about a month ago that when President Bush took office he had meetings with all of the Democratic leadership.... one on one meetings in the Oval Office," O'Reilly said.

"The Democratic leadership made it quite clear to Mr. Bush that he would not get any cooperation - zero - on the part of the Democrats in the Senate and in the House if he pursued any kind of a criminal investigation against Bill Clinton."

O'Reilly said that according to his source, "Basically they said look, if you embarrass us - by us we mean the Democratic Party - if you, Bush-Ashcroft, indict Clinton on bribery or go after Hillary or any of this - we're gonna shut you down. We're not gonna do anything. You're not going to get any (legislation) passed if four years."

The talk host's highly placed administration source said Democrat leaders then explained to Bush, "If you put this thing on the back track and just play the game the way we've always played it here in the Justice Department since Watergate, where the powerful protect each other - then we'll keep an open mind on your legislation."

O'Reilly never indicated who his source might be beyond describing him as "very highly placed."

On Thursday, U.S. Attorney for New York's Southern District James Comey, a Bush appointee, ended a key part of the probe into whether the Clintons traded pardons for political favors and campaign contributions.

First of all, I don't need OBL to tell me that Bush sucks, I know that myself. Secondly, what is posted in the article is policy. His policy is to safe-guard the Clinton crimes so Democrats would love him, the public would think he is setting a new tone in politics, etc. The only tone he is setting is of obstruction of justice, conspiracy, and criminal negligence. But, I dont blame him. It probably runs in the family.

"I don't believe this is true, and I think the story came from the leader of the Axis of Whining Weasels, BILL KRISTOL!!"

Right ON Miss Marple!

No one who really is on the inside would leak this. But Bill Kristol could and certainly would love to damage Bush.

Your insistence on demonizing and denigrating President Bush beyond any rational reason and despite any evidence to the contrary in this specific case, especially, indicates a clear bias that allows no discussion, no thought, no debate. It also exposes an equally blind animosity toward Bush and renders your accusations moot.

Flail away. No one is paying much attention these days except like-minded members of the political fringe, mumbling anti-Bush mantras over in the amen corner, and the occasional FReeper post such as this that takes a moment to point out the speciousness of your accusations.

You are irrevelant to the political process with this kind of mindless bile so go, dine on it for your daily bread as it's about all you have left.

O'Reilly and an anonymous person who claims to be an "insider" ...... really reliable source he has there.

Isn't it interesting what rules the right and the left play by.

Thirty years later Deep Throat is a household name, revered as the man who saved the nation from Richard Nixon.

Not twenty-four hours later and any unnamed source against leftist activity is trashed for being unreliable.

If agreeing not to persue Clinton criminality isn't leftist, what is it?

At the last minute I took your name off the "to:" function. Since your name appears in the post that wasn't fair. Sorry. Check out post # 153.

"Sometimes witnesses are not as forthcoming as the DA thought they would be. Sometimes their testimony is not very compelling to the jury. Sometimes the DA over-reaches and tries for a conviction on a charge for which there is not a clear case. For many reasons, cases which to an outsider look airtight don't end up that way when the jury goes behind closed doors and ponders the evidence WHICH THEY HAVE OBTAINED DURING THE TRIAL. "

And sometimes someone in position of high power prevents any of this from happening at all. As is the case with the Bush adminstration.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Your attempts to refute my specific points of contention with Bush's policies shows how unbiased you are. I think people will judge fairly who is unbiased here.

they obviously haven't kept their word, perhaps he should do something before the statute of limitations runs out.

Right. Maybe he could borrow some backbone from Trent Lott?

This is a crock, Dash-hole and co. have been anything but cooperative so far, why should the Republicans expect anything else in the next 2 years?

And how is Bubba-2 in a position to complain about them stabbing him in the back? Think the fact that the Dims turned him into their bitch would make him look good in Republican eyes? What do YOU think the reaction to Dim charges of a "partisan witchhunt" would be if he shifted gears NOW and went after Bubba-1 and Bubbette!? They would surely accuse him of doing this purely because they had "kept him and the radical right from destroying our country with radical right-wing judicial appointments."

Face it,Bubba-2 is a punk, and he has been had. Correction, thanks to HIM,we have all be had. We now OFFICIALLY have a two-teir judicial system where the elites aren't charged or prosecuted. You can bet your life the Dims would have gone after any Republican politician who did the stuff Bubba-1 did.

My guess would be that Xlintons have dirt on all of them. One of those "If I go down, we're all going down" kinda things.

Yup,I'm sure that's a large part of it. In fact,George "Stephanie" Stepanolopous was even on tv during the impeachement hearings SAYING Bubba-1 would do this if they removed him from office. Nothing subtle about that at all,yet Bubba-1 and Stephanie got away with threatening US Senators and Congressmen.
