A tax break for environmental groups is being added to part of President Bush's faith-based initiative, angering some conservatives.
The provision gives a 25 percent discount on capital-gains tax to private property owners who sell their land to environmental groups or the government, instead of to other private parties.

Which one?
Geez...that's taking the whole "brother's keeper" adage to a whole new level, LOL! Seriously, I think Jeb is wrong and therefore I cannot in good conscience defend him on the matter. Private property rights need to be protected. I just don't see anywhere in GWB's plan for tax credits where there is a "land grab" as the article and some posters have stated. No one is forcing anyone to sell their property to an environmental group, it is completely voluntary.
BINGO!!! We have a winner from our next Senate Majority Leader!!
FReegards...MUD

This administration is getting so confusing. Are we supposed to hug the homeless or hug a tree?
***GASP***...you mean I am supposed to get PAID for this? Gotta run...have to go quit my day job, call the RNC and demand back pay!
I've made my point about no one being forced to sell their property to environmentalists, I prefer not to waste my time playing your childish games.
Ever hear of Google? I keep a separate window open for it. The results page reads:
"Searched the web for Heritage River Initiative. Results 1 - 10 of about 129,000. Search took 0.22 seconds."
Try again smart guy....

Well I decided to give your directions a try Sparky. I placed the term "heritage river initiative" in the Google search feature and found page after page of links. I'll have to admit I only checked the first 500 links, but your White House article wasn't in there. Okay, I decided to see if I could help you get your story straight. Next I limited my search to the same phrase only this time at site specific www.whitehouse.gov. Your article didn't show up.
Okay Sparky. Perhaps you can dig yourself out of this one. Care to feed us another line? Where'd you get the article?
LOL what a sharpie. Try and crank up that fried brain of yours and think back back to Klamath Lakes. You do remember Klamath Lakes right? You do remember the government cutting off the water to the farmers up there? You do remember some of those farmers family's going belly up right? You do remember some of those farmers selling their farms to the Nature's Conservency who just happened to be in the neighborhood right? I suppose you think these farmers just decided to sell out on a whim at $0.25 on the dollar. Yeah, that's right, nobody was forced to do anything. My appologies.
I have to continually remind myself what group of people I'm dealing with. I try to make allowances, but they never seem to be large enough.
Did you notice how line one of the article is contradicted by line two?
Is the tax break for the enviro group/govt group or for the land owner?
Believe it or not, there are many land owners who would like to see their farm/ranch remain intact when they sell it, but they have to be willing to accept less money. A developer is willing to pay more since he will be turning that land into 5 acre mini-ranchettes and mobile home estates.
Not only does this tax break preserve open space, it reduces federal revenues.
How about a great Big "Circle Hug", or something like that that's done in Washington, D.C. every day.
Personally the ONLY time I ever stated anything of the sort was related to recess appointments...and I'm very proud of President Bush for making the ones he did!
Bump.
I listed 25 conservative actions by Pres. Bush and this is your only retort? A little lame of a response to try and shuck off that list with this reply. Can't you do better than this? Praytell, what are these "offsetting issues?"
