Wanna be better protected, or not? He's pulling together a lot of different agencies and parts of other agencies.

I consider you to be one of the most grounded posters on this forum and agree with you most times. But I'm starting to really wonder how far the Bush admin. is going to take things.

No.

Some of us like our freedoms enough to trust our protection to God, and not the state. This kind of "protection" is a cheap promise of "comfort". Better America weather her blows now, than the certainty of stagnation from that tired path.

Increasing funding for the department of education, the NEA, and public broadcasting protects us how exactly?

Sinkspur,

I see you're still defending the indefensible. Bush and his henchmen in the Justice Department are busy installing the trappings of a police state -- the mechanism of our future oppression -- and, rather than condemn it, you celebrate it as a great victory for Republicanism and freedom, no less. Your ceaseless toadying for Bush -- even as the size, scope and intrusiveness of government explodes under his reign -- is worse than inexplicable; it's despicable.

Those of us who actually support a free republic -- free of federal snoops and "anti-terrorist" Stazi -- can do without your facile rationalizations and sandbox syllogisms.

If the Bush administration gets its way (a good bet given the unremitting cowardice of congress), we soon will live under a constitutional dictatorship, whose feckless leadership will urge us from one war to the next with the rallying cry, "The only thing to fear is not enough fear."

Since the creation of the Department of Education in 1978, test scores have been in decline. By what rational should we conclude there will be a better result this time around? As the boss of nation's defense, he has to power to fire the very people he himself said failed in their national security responsibilities-- and yet there has been not one single high level resignation-- how should we square this contradiction in words and policy?

From what? Your chances of dying when you walk across a street or drive down a highway are much higher than being killed by a terrorist.

Don't fool yourself - the tools and laws were in place to stop 9/11, some mid-level bureaucrats left over from the clinton PC bonanza decided to ignore/bury the evidence, and so now you and I are paying and will be paying for their ignorance/idiocy/neglect through our taxes and through the hit on our freedoms/privacy/rights.

Just remember, Cheney, Rummy, and ol' Ridge think you and I should be victims and that there is nothing we can do about it. They are wrong, you and I can help elect a real Conservative, who doesn't think we should wait for the "inevitable" (their words, not mine) and who will do something about the terrorists, even those hiding in Saudi Arabia.

He did not speak of an expansion. He only spoke of reorganizing what was already in place.

Some will go through hoops to lie about our president and spread propaganda.

Good God, man....

If you have hope that a larger, even more bloated government is the answer to our protection, we might as well begin to pass out the KOOL-ADE....
