Gov. Gray Davis is a moneymaking dynamo -- pulling in campaign donations at a rate of $1,800 an hour, 24 hours a day for the past five years, a Chronicle computer analysis shows.
A multibillion-dollar budget shortfall, threats of statewide energy blackouts, the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorism -- no crisis was so severe that Davis stopped the fund-raising efforts that have brought him an average $44,100 a day to keep his office.

Lazio received far MORE individual donations (most of them small donations) from the citizens of America than any other non-presidential candidate in our history.

Naw. They just ran this article so that they can claim that Davis is "really" just a corporate shill and not a true Leftist.
Notice how they claim that his politics are "middle of the road" even though Davis is 100% pro-choice...
These are the donations that are so called "legit".
Wouldn't you like to see the transparent donations to Herr Davis?
I went to a community meeting of Malibu residents that protested the Coastal Commission's actions. Needless to say, A Jerrold Perenchio did not attend. The people who showed up feeling powerless were extremely lucky middle class people who had lived in Malibu for years, since when you could buy on Cliffside Drive for $70,000. I doubt most of them thought of themselves as rich, even though they are. (A house on Cliffside Drive now goes for a cut rate $2,500,000 or more; not half bad, really).
That aside, the Coastal Commission is an exceptionally cruel government agency. So much so that the citizens of Malibu may well wind up voting against Davis even though most of them are normally democrats.
