If anything, MAYBE just maybe them coming out and helping parents publicize their plights..MAYBE it will help cleanse their souls... and if the swinging partners EVER come out and speak out abut their sordid affairs with the VD's...God help them and their poor kids.

True that it is nothing new to follower of the VD news...but it is the hardest hitting piece yet IMO by a mainline San Diego publication. Could mean that despite their best efforts, the VD's and their PR machine are stalling?? What do you think?

I think you are right on..If the publicity is getting hot two weeks before the trial ..it is only going to get tougher...thus the rebirth as concerned child advocates...Keep them away from my grandkids.....

Danielle’s father, Damon van Dam, tucked her in bed on the night of February 1 and then went to bed himself. Her mother, Brenda, was out with several girlfriends and did not return home until 2 a.m. Her father woke up in the middle of the night to find a sliding door open downstairs, but returned to bed without checking Danielle’s room.

Wow, I have yet to see a more sanitized, detail-less description of that evening, lol.

Anger is always healthy as you know..as long as it's used constructively. My opinion is...don't let this case make other parents fearful for speaking out..for fear of being put under a microscope. I just touched upon this subject with someone else... There are child abuse and negligent laws...let the courts handle the parents if need be. Let the media/parents and public search for the child. :(

"I wonder if everyone will be chipping in to get DW a new house if proven innocent."

Why not? A lot of people have chipped in to give Damon a new BMW. (Money that should rightfully have gone to help the missing children organizations that helped them out.)

Remember the good old days when you could lose your kid and not need a Public Relations Representative?

I saw this on the Today show and wondered about that. The most disgusting thing though, was Katie's question to Ms. Van Dam. "With the trial of your neighbor coming up soon, how do you feel about the death penalty?"
This is all that Katie could think to ask her, her opinion on the death penalty?!!!!
Guess we know where Katies priorities are.

There's nothing these people can do that will make Mr. Fresno happy. The truth will not even be enough. Makes you wonder about Mr. Fresno, doesn't it?

I seriously believe that it's cases like this that cause some parents to become too fearful to speak out for help. Think about how many kids are missing..how many do we hear about? Do you think they'd be found if they had the publicity the vd's had? I'd venture to say it would help them a lot! A 24 hr missing children's cable channel.. That's the ticket.

I thought you might be interested in this if you haven't. Maybe this is why overpaid katie asked the question?:

(04-25-2002) - Prosecutors said Thursday they will seek the death penalty against David Westerfield, the neighbor accused of kidnapping and murdering seven-year-old Danielle van Dam.

Westerfield, 50, is set for trial May 17.

During a court hearing, prosecutor Jeff Dusek said the decision to seek the death penalty had been made "after full and careful consideration.''

Prosecutors filed a statement detailing their reasons, but a judge ordered the document sealed. Lawyers in the case are under a gag order.

Westerfield's lawyers are pressing for speedy trial even though such serious cases usually require several months of legal preparation.

"I've never heard of a death penalty case in this or any other community going in 60 days,'' Superior Court Judge William Mudd said
