"In my newspaper yesterday, the article read that Bush said that we must give special privileges to Mexicans due to our special relationship" And just what special relationship would that be? Oh, you must mean the only country that has militarily attacked us on our native soil other than the Empire of Japan. I beleive it was in the 1920's when the Mexican army crossed into the United States at Columbia, New Mexico and murdered the American inhabitants. Also we must keep in mind more recent incidents when units of the Mexican army have crossed into the U.S. and fired upon U.S. Border Patrol personnel. Then conveniently hushed up but the higher-ups. We must not forget Mexico'glaringly, obvious lack of support after the 9/11 thing. And their "Go Osama" T-shirts immediately after the attack. Oh yeah! We really have a special relationship here, don't we?

I believe that special relationship exists between the Bushes and Mexico, not between Mexico and the US.

Dont forget the opinion polls pretty soon after 9-11 in Mexico which showed VERY WEAK SUPPORT nor CONCERN for the United States after the attack. Some "allies" at the grassroots, eh? The big concern in Mexico was whether this meant an even stricter USA border to cross.

I remember some polls of illegals in California from Mexico also showed this very self centered, self culture centrific dynamic on the part of Mexico.

Bush is too nice of a guy and it translates into naivety on a grand scale in foreign policy as executed through his State Department and INS. HIS Administration, now. For it is over one year out since he took over from Clinton and could have started cleaning the house. The next terrorist attack is on HIS WATCH.

I hope it does not then develop into an open border laying the groundwork for even more hideous US attacks, but it may very well happen that way. An immense, stupid political risk if you ask me. If there is a major attack and he was seen as being all open borders again, you can bet a conservative candidate will take up the standard against him in 2004, or we may have a conservative populist take up an independent party route in protest. It happened to his dad.

The only "special relationship" that exists between the U.S. and that third-world dump to the south is similar to the relationship a fat malignant tumor has with whatever it's attached to.
