Agreed, PRS. Like any immigrant group, Mexicans will have an "adaptation curve," but most of them are more than willing to adapt to American life and take advantage of the opportunities here. No - not welfare, but small businesses, education for their kids, etc.
I think that a freer flow of people can be mutually beneficial to both Mexico and the US. But it should go both ways. For one thing, what about making it easier and safer for Americans to live in or start businesses in Mexico?
Many Americans are shortsighted on this. Most Latin American immigrants want to learn English and be like anybody else. It's only the various educational establishment folks and other Democrat minions who don't want this to happen.
Conservatives should seize this opportunity. If people come here, it's because they want to be part of this country; if they send money to their families in their home countries, their families want their countries to be more like ours. We are building up support - and don't forget, these folks have the same Judeo-Christian background that we do, and in many cases, they take it a lot more seriously. I think Bush understands this, but I there there are a lot of people on FR who don't.
By the way, just to add to what you said, Hispanic Americans are more highly represented among medal winners in combat than any other ethnic group; have served in disproportionately high numbers in the military (compared to their population here); and have higher rates of English speakers by the third generation that any other ethnic group in history. Apparently this is what people mean when they say Hispanics are "un-assimilable."
Have you seen the video about LaRaza, MeCHA, Southwest Voter Registration drive? These groups will tell you their goal is to take back SW US. They say they can take down the most powerful nation in the world without firing a shot by means of migration. They are four years ahead of their goal.

I understand adhering to the rule of law, and administering justice in fairness weighted towards those who obeyed the law....but I think there are a lot of people on FR who don't
