A prediction: Gray Davis will be defeated this November by a whopping margin and it will be one of the biggest ideological turnarounds in U.S. history, and could in time lead to Bill Simon’s eventual ascendancy to the White House.

The writer is on drugs.

Davis has the $$$ and the media, but I don't hear too many folks in our area that will vote for him.

What area might that be? In any event, the race has months to go. If the election were held tomorrow, Simon would probably win. It isn't being held tomorrow.

Only the first 9 words will turn out true.

Davis is a better candidate than Gore. Simon is not as good a candidate as Bush. Gore beat Bush in California by 12 points even though Bush ventured to California in the final days of the campaign.

Anyone who thinks energy hurt Davis, undoubtedly thinks Clinton hurt Gore in California. It they were running nationwide, Simon would have a chance. Simon has a much smaller chance of carrying California than Bush did, simply becuase Dubya is a better candidate than Simon, and Davis is a better candidate than Gore.

Davis should give Simon a job in his administration when he is re-elected. Davis would not be re-elected with out Simon's help. Davis owes Simon big time.

Dont be a pessimist, make it a reality. Issues are on Simon's side.

Davis is the most vulnerable incumbent governor in California history. While the election is not a sure thing ... Democrats will lie, cheat and steal to win and keep power ... but Davis is totally out of it. His comments to the SD Union-Tribune were totally out of line. He can't run this election simply by attacking Bill Simon for being "too conservative". He's going to have to answer the tough questions eventually, or he WILL lose.

Go Simon!

Notice how thrilling it is for Gray Davis to be giving his approval on yet one more purchase charged to his 'Mandys' credit card.

That's nonsense. Simon's record in California is a disaster. He pissed millions of taxpayers dollars down the drain, right there in the open for everyone to see. If he had done NOTHING whatsoever about the enery "crisis", the State would be much, much better of financially. The one thing people hate is to witness abject incompetence. Davis would lose to almost anyone, IMO. Even Simon.

Ya, the GOP needed a safe and dull candidate like Jones. Simon's dalliance with Sheldon I think will really hurt him. I am quite confident Simon will lose. But predicting California this far in advance is quite silly. It can be a highly volatile state, particularly in non federal elections. And this year, more folks are in play than ever. But I don't think Simon has the skills and the nuance to avoid the shoals.

You get the defeatist of the day award. Either help beat Gray Doofus or take a hike. Folks like you are the #2 reason why conservatives lose election (#1 being the liberal news media).

How about this: Do something positive to help Bill Simon win this election instead of whining about how all is lost a full six months before the election!

The bills we get in our mail box for energy are back down (for gas), or otherwise not up. Davis will blame it on Wilson. Simon will gain overall from this issue, but it is not a killer, and other issues are out there. You do know that Simon paid 30 K to Lou Sheldon don't you? I can't think of anyone off hand that is most subject to demonization with the bulk of California voters. Why Simon did that is a mystery.

A prediction: Gray Davis will be defeated this November

But that will be good enough, we dont need a landslide - 52% will be landslide enough. :-)

The article made some good points. Voters in 1994, 1998 and 2000 *passed* conservative ballot propositions. The media couldnt *taint* the ballot props the way they can candidates, and people showed their true beliefs - they know bilingual education doesnt work, they know illegal immigrant are a burden on social services, and they think marriage is between men and women. These are no "divisive" so much as non-PC beliefs. The voters suppported that. The writer is right ... the recent Democratic dominance does not mean the state is Liberal. It's far less Liberal than New York, a state that now has GOP Governor and New York mayor.

The right GOP candidate can appeal and overcome the nasty lock the liberal special interests have on the statehouse. Bill Simon has the right appeal. It wont be easy, but he will win: $12B deficit; Davis totally bungled energy and socked Cali with $40B in energy bills; education, he gave the rundown, it is helping kids (simon is "pro-kid") versus sucking up to the leftwing special interests as Davis has done, and ignore the kids. If Simon make the fiscal budget, energy and education *his* issues, and shows a positive agenda that disarms the leftists, he will win and Davis will LOSE.

The state of California, a state containing the fifth largest economy in the world, preoccupies itself (with the apparent blessing of Gray Davis), with a largely unreported pro-homosexual social engineering project that places "diversity" over talent and "tolerance" over accomplishment, while using public school students as guinea pigs.

Boy is this ever the truth!

8 months is a long time for Davis to run an expensive negative campaign, which is what he needs to do, IMO. All the money he's spent so far ( 10 million ?!) and he's down in the polls?? He's going to need a bucketful of luck to pull this one out..
