I know ----but it seems the pro-illegal side likes to imply this means all hispanics ---that someone who believes all people should follow immigration laws (which many people from Mexico have done) somehow means you just don't like Hispanics. That's stupid because many legal Hispanic citizens are as against this as anyone else. In fact it's their unemployed youth which is most affected by this.

My understanding is that the bill applies to all ethnicities, but that its urgency arises because of Mexico, from which the greatest number of immigrants come. I've done a good deal of reading (chiefly here at FR), but I'm not yet up to speed on the particulars of this, and really should become so before commenting further. Ditto to many other posters. It's disturbing that so many have proclaimed that under no circumstances will they vote for Bush, Jr.
We're conservatives. Most of us are under-informed about a wide range of issues, even if we're better informed as a rule than non-conservatives. We have, all of us, been wrong before. Let's not jump the gun and make choices that will imperil our best hopes for securing a truly free and prosperous future. On the other hand, if Bush has no greater justification for this than hoping to court hispanic voters for 2004, I'll be deeply disappointed.

What amnesty?

IMHO things are going to get much worse before they get any better.
Maybe the thing to do is throw our government to the wolves, and elect Daschle president. Let the democrats make a real mess of things so all the voters see what is happening to our country. They won't like it.
I say this because we conservatives are not getting anyplace voting for the likes of Bush or other RINO. I'm just so disgusted with the whole damn bunch, it's hard to come up any concrete constructive ideas.

If you want to something, focus on congress and on supporting any Republican challengers to Bush in 2004. Don't stay home on election day, and don't vote for a third party candidate, unless a really strong one turns up in 2004.

"I honestly believe that if President Bush wanted all the millions of illegals deported or was totally against this insane amnesty, almost every single Bush supporter on this great forum would agree with him. "
Many Bush supports would give him the benefit of the doubt if he told them to jump off the cliff. Kool-aid, anyone?

Party over principle rules. The elites have the game figured out.Keep the sheeple voting for the lesser of two evils. Bingo. And it's the lesser from whichever perspective they're looking from.
While Clinton was in office, the "conservatives" were thinking, "Yeah, we'll get that guy outta there and then we'll be cookin' with a 'conservative' prez," while the liberals were thinking, "Party on, dudes - we're in konTROL!"
Then Bush got elected, and the "conservatives" are thinking, "Let's roll!!! By golly, we're at war, cause our 'conservative' prez says so, yep, party on dudes!" While the liberals have reverted to "Yeah, we'll get that guy outta there and then we'll be cookin' with a good liberal prez who feels our pain again..." And the shell game continues, as the global agenda marches on. And since 911, speeds up.

After a great deal of thought, I'm going to suggest people on this board start thinking of themselves as "Constitutional Republicans", not conservatives or libertarians. The reason this is important is that as much as libertarians have their problems, conservatives have an even larger problem - they are essentially democrats who are happy with gaining power through elective democratic processes. That's Bush's (conservative) problem right now on immigration, CFR, tarrifs, and everything else, he is happy to win issues by cutting corners for votes and throwing away the Constitution. Not a spit worth of difference with Democrats at that point.

"Ssshhhhhh - I keep trying to tell you guys, this stuff is all done to fool the Democrats. "
Good Lord!!!

What is relevant is that if you remove the cheap labor from the fields it will have a significant impact on the economy any you will not like that...The old lettuce threat. Why are there millions upon millions of illegals in the cities, where there are no lettuce fields? Look in the newspaper want ads.
There are not thousands and thousands of openinig for dishwashers or yard maintenance. Look in the LA times want ads. (just don't buy the paper)
There are probably on 300 want ads total, and most of them are for high tech or nursing engineering type ads.

If we really want to get the cost of fruits and vegetables down, why not bring back slavery? Sudan will oblige us in that regard? Is it just about economics?

Perhaps it's a color/hue issue with you. There does seem to be a color/hue issue in this amnesty ---it doesn't seem to apply to those whiter or those darker who could be here illegally. This isn't a color or ethnicity neutral amnesty after all ---it's not going to be offered to Canadians or Ugandans. It's a very racist amnesty just like the last. It says that if you are a certain hue or color, you are exempt from following laws that people of another hue are expected to obey.

"Perhaps it's a color/hue issue with you."
So if an American believes that illegal immigrants should not become citizens, he or she is racist? Way to go, PRND21. That is one of the dumbest comments that I have seen for a few weeks.

Sometimes you gotta take a step back to move forward. The economic impact would be slight compared to the relief we would see taxes. Take the illegals out and what berries cost 2 bucks a pound as opposed to 1.50 a pound. Or take the illegals home and we get a 1.5% tax break becuase the state/fed helping hand budget dropped 30%.
