OVER 100 ORGANIZATIONS ASKED TO DROP SUPPORT FOR AMERICAN RED CROSS

OVER 100 ORGANIZATIONS ASKED TO DROP SUPPORT FOR AMERICAN RED CROSS

The Catholic League is asking over 100 organizations to drop their support for the American Red Cross. Specifically, we are requesting the leaders of allied organizations to alert their members to the decision by the Red Cross Orange County Chapter in Santa Ana, California, to stop students from Orange County High School of the Arts from singing “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful” at a Red Cross luncheon yesterday.

The national headquarters of the American Red Cross supports the censorship. In a news release on this subject, it exclaims “our sensitivity to religious diversity” noting its “preference for a music program that would be inclusive and not offend different populations participating in this particular event.”

Catholic League president William Donohue commented as follows:

“If this were just a chapter of the Red Cross acting this way, we would be disturbed but would not call for drastic action. But since the headquarters of the American Red Cross is supporting the ban on ‘God Bless America’ and ‘America the Beautiful,’ we are left with little alternative. Sadly, it has become all too common for the high priests of ‘religious diversity’ and ‘inclusiveness’ to resort to gag rules.

“The American Red Cross has every right to adopt the platform of political correctness by censoring the free speech of young men and women who want to honor God and country. And we have every right to ask our friends to send the Red Cross an unmistakable message by refusing to donate one more dime to the organization. Our request is being sent to our allies in virtually every faith community. The time to put an end to this anti-religious madness is now.”

I think the monopoly money is a great idea! Why don't you post it as a protest thread?

I wrote them a well-reasoned and courteous-but-scathing dennouncement. From their reply, I'd gather they were under siege: (quote from Red Cross e-mail reply)

Re: God Bless America

Due to the extraordinary volume of e-mail we have received, it may take 8-10 days until we are able to respond, and your patience is greatly appreciated.

Dear Brother Donohue, I'm on board and I'll ask my denomination to do the same.

Five bucks says you either never get a response, or get a form email. They're not taking 8-10 days because they're actually deigning to even read the complaints; it's just that they've gotten such a gigantic grass-roots response of anger that it's going to take them that long to separate out the "regular" email from all the protest emails.

Great! This on top of the 60 Minutes expose' of the many times they have failed to give benefits to victims even though these same victims were used to solicit contributions. Law suits were required to have the benefits given to the victims.

In addition, there appear to be very high corporate salaries and many opportunities for "bonuses" to the administrators for fundraising, etc. This reminds me of the United Way fraud.

I can understand that they do need money to fund the aid provided for all assistance to the varied needs of victims. Yet, the way they obtain the funds is not above board. Since they do this, I am really suspicious about how the funds are spent. There have been too many instances of victims not receiving aid up to a year after the Red Cross offered assistance.

I found some at Wal-mart recently too, right next to the complete game. I'm mailing several envelopes tomorrow at different boxes so they will receive different postmarks.

Zip, I have a similar story which I won't bore you with- suffice it to say that I give to the AER drive, but NEVER give anything to the bureaucratic, self-interested morons who run the ARC.

I don't know why, but MANY vets of WW11 ( my father, a Marine, included) had nothing good to say about the Red Cross and would never give them a dime. How about any of you older vets out there, do you have any input as to why ? I never knew why, but many had bad experiences with the RC.

The only thing my father would ever say about his experiences with the RC during WW2 in the Pacific was that enlisted folks were allowed to buy coffee and doughnuts while officers were given free food and entertainment.

For the life of me, I just cannot understand what the heck kind of "PR" plan these people have. Did they not learn ONE lesson after the 9-11 fund troubles?

As AnnaZ says, maybe they shouldn't use AMERICAN in their name.

The logical next step for them to take would be to catagorize blood according to the personal "religious" beliefs of the donor. I'm sure some would be just as "offended" to be given "Christian" blood as they are to hear "Christian words". Many of these glittering jewels of collosal stupidity would most definately be willing to bleed to death before they accepted it .... would they not?

/sarcasm off
