OVER 100 ORGANIZATIONS ASKED TO DROP SUPPORT FOR AMERICAN RED CROSS

OVER 100 ORGANIZATIONS ASKED TO DROP SUPPORT FOR AMERICAN RED CROSS

The Catholic League is asking over 100 organizations to drop their support for the American Red Cross. Specifically, we are requesting the leaders of allied organizations to alert their members to the decision by the Red Cross Orange County Chapter in Santa Ana, California, to stop students from Orange County High School of the Arts from singing “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful” at a Red Cross luncheon yesterday.

The national headquarters of the American Red Cross supports the censorship. In a news release on this subject, it exclaims “our sensitivity to religious diversity” noting its “preference for a music program that would be inclusive and not offend different populations participating in this particular event.”

Catholic League president William Donohue commented as follows:

“If this were just a chapter of the Red Cross acting this way, we would be disturbed but would not call for drastic action. But since the headquarters of the American Red Cross is supporting the ban on ‘God Bless America’ and ‘America the Beautiful,’ we are left with little alternative. Sadly, it has become all too common for the high priests of ‘religious diversity’ and ‘inclusiveness’ to resort to gag rules.

“The American Red Cross has every right to adopt the platform of political correctness by censoring the free speech of young men and women who want to honor God and country. And we have every right to ask our friends to send the Red Cross an unmistakable message by refusing to donate one more dime to the organization. Our request is being sent to our allies in virtually every faith community. The time to put an end to this anti-religious madness is now.”

Mine, too! All of it does, in fact.

Let's respect their "sensitivity to religious diversity" by not donating it to them.

Well, my father was overseas in WWI - he was fifty when I was born. Anyway, I was working for a company when they asked us to contribute to the Red Cross. I mentioned it at dinner and my father went crazy. He told me that the Red Cross was charging mega bucks for the soldiers who wanted cigarets. He said they were a very crooked organization. Fast forward to another company I was working for years later. My boss told me he was collecting money for the Red Cross in his Westchester, NY town and approached a butcher shop. The butcher, who was overseas in WWII, threw him out screaming about what a bunch of bastards the Red Cross was and how lousy they treated the GI's then. I donated to the Red Cross after 9/11, but never again. I should have listened to my father.

OK .. I asked my 75 yr old mother if she remembered any stories BTW .. remind me not to do that anytime soon .. LOL

Oh , that is cute, but I know what you mean..:):):) LOL..Yes I agree with what you said of the Salvation Army, I have always heard nothing but good works from them. There are two charities that I ALWAYS contribute to with out fail and that is the Veterans and also the Salvation Army. Thanks for checking on that for me..

"(The Red Cross, which has never accepted a dime from the U.S. government (and to this day relies totally on voluntary contributions)..."

Voluntary contributions my Aunt Fanny! Has anyone ever received a blood transfusion? And was it FREE? Did the ARC donate the blood to the person who needed the transfusion, the way the blood donor donated to the ARC?

The last I heard, the cost of a pint of blood for a transfusion from ARC was in the hundreds of dollars. I could be mistaken--anyone who can, please correct me. And DON'T try to tell me the cost is for the testing.

That is what I'm hearing about from many of the vets of WW11, so I have to believe they all cannot be wrong. I believe my father too, and he was adamantly against them for how the soldiers were treated by them. He had no use for them at all.

What the heck, go ahead and send them fifty.

You don't want them to think you're stingy.

I wonder if someone shouldn't tell the Red Cross that their logo contains an offensive non inclusive religious symbol? With their sensitivity, it's surprising they haven't notice it.

Thank you for your service. FR seems to have a lot of veterans. Since they've split the forums into political/non-political maybe we could start a thread for veterans to share their experiences. It would be a good to hear the real history from those who actually lived it.

I wouldn't be embarassed about donating. Your heart was in the right place and you probably saved more than one life with your gift. It's the Red Cross who should be ashamed. Fortunately there are other places than the RC to donate.

Maybe they should change that to "The American Red Whatever".

Wow....do I ever love the internet and Free Republic - this is how we will TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY, folks.....truth travels faster than they can re-group and re-strategize. (Course, you have to be careful of the untruths, too - but when it's the truth - it doesn't just lie their waiting to be picked up by the AP)

Statement from the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross On The Music Program for the March 10 Recognition Event
Contact: American Red Cross National Headquarters.
Phone: (202) 639-3500

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., March 11, 2002 — The Fundamental Principles that guide the American Red Cross — Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntarism, Unity and Universality — are more important today than ever before. We have used these principles time and time again to govern our work here in Orange County and around the world.

We used these same principles to develop the program to honor our volunteers this past Sunday who provide vital services to our community throughout the year. We certainly did not intend to hurt or offend anyone.

But the judgements we made in this case in applying our principles clearly offended some in our community. Principles should remain inviolate. But like many things in life, it is important to use reasonable judgement in applying principles to the everyday circumstances we confront. So, while our principles remain sound, the judgement we made to exclude certain songs from the Sunday program was a mistake.

We want to apologize to the community and to any people who were hurt or disappointed by our actions.

...I guess it is working (not that this kind of apology means anything)

Seems we started e-mailing them several days ago, and I also sent a letter in support of the choir director, whose school official chastised her!

USC Title 36 Chapter 1

The law mandates a Greek red cross on a white background.

Under the same bill, the Red Cross is a corporation, President Bush appoints the Director, Dr. Healy was forced to resign because she threatened to withold funds from to IRC until they recognise the Jewish version

Too late. Far too late. And as far as the Red Cross is concerned, who would believe anything they said, anyway?
