The latest updat that I have is as follows: The child that I mentioned being in the coma is the one that is burned the worst. Third degree burns cover 35% of her body. She is still unconscious. She is only 7 years old. The risks to her little body are so great re infection, scarring, painful skin grafts, etc and this is NOT even including the injury to her brain.
The other two little girls in the burn unit seem to be recovering well ( Praise God! )considering their injuries although they have a way to go. I know that one of them is 11 years old. She is the sister to the 7 yo mentioned above. ( These two are the stepdaughters of the driver of the Jeep ).
Any of us here who are parent know how timy a 7 yo can be ( my own daughter was 7 when she was in the NC Jaycees ( UNC ) Burn center with 2nd and 3rd degree burns to only 17% of her body and I thought that was horrible ). What I went through only pales in comparison to what this family must be living with. I weep as I even try to comprehend as it is so personal to me having experienced a similar situation with my own child. My daughter was the recipient of a MIRACLE while recovering from her burns so I KNOW FIRST HAND the awesomeness of what God can do.
Skye's intubation tube was removed tonight and although she can't speak because of a sore throat she is doing a slight bit better. Her 3rd and 4th vertebrae were compacted together and she will be in a body brace for a while. She is very uncomfortable but she has not shed a tear. The nurse remarked that she could not understand why she hasn't cried in pain.
Earlier tonight she was lifting her hands towards the ceiling and her meema gave her pen and paper and she wrote that she was "lifting her hands to Jesus and asking Him to help her stop hurting". She also wrote to her meema telling her that "Jesus was with her". ( Skye has always loved the Lord with ALL of her precious tender heart and has always made Him the center of her life. She is really "bad" for talking to other children about Jesus *BG* ). Our hearts are uplifted in praise as we see her slowly improving in such a short time. We are now asking the Lord for the strength to help her through her long recovery that is ahead as it appears that she WILL recover.
A witness to the accident confirmed a rumor that we had heard. He mentioned coming upon the accident and seeing a little girl trying to get the other children out but not being able to do so because of the heat of the flames. That was Skye. She suffered her burns in doing this. She was able to get the seat belts of the other children unbuckled before catching on fire herself. How? I don't know. She was found on the grass on the shoulder of the road having rolled in the grass to put out the flames in her hair. This is , apparently, why she has vivid memories of the little 7 yo shoe being melted into her foot. The police officer was the one who removed these children from the burning vehicle with no thought of his own safety from what we are told.
According to the HP report, a call had come in concerning a vehicle travelling the wrong way on the highway. The policeman was less than a half mile away when the accident occured as he was responding to that call to 911. Had he been further away, I hate to think of what the outcome could have been.
As Skye recovers PLEASE do not forget the little 7 yo who is in such bad shape.
Once again, my deepest appreciation is extended to you all.
What a beautiful and courageous child she is - Lord, continue to bless this wonderful child and heal her physically and emotionally.
We thank and praise You for hearing and making her WHOLE.
We ask boldly in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
I am speechless about Skye's faith. It would be so easy to be bitter and ask why, instead, Skye seems to have been drawn closer to Him. Her story is a true inspiration for us all. Thank you for sharing that with us.
who, thanks for the ping.
Our whole family is still praying for these girls. My daughter wants to know if she can send each of the girls a stuffed animal and a card in the burn unit? If you could post (or re-post, I may have missed it) the names of the hospitals? She really wants to send them.
God Bless
Heavenly Father, the family of the driver and her son need Your comfort, Your strength, and Your love as they cope with their loss and the circumstances. Amen.
May God continue to bless Skye, the other children, and the families involved.
Out of the mouths of babes...praise God for this child's faith! What a testimony she has. She's right, Jesus was with her. My prayer is that she'll continue to improve dramatically! May God's healing hand be upon the 7 yo that's in such bad condition and the other children hurting from this horrible accident.
