PLEASE Urgent Prayers needed for child in car accident
self | 03/09/2002 | self

Posted on 03/09/2002 2:30:04 PM PST by PleaseNoMore

I have never posted an article. I have only replied. Please forgive me if this is not in the right place.

I am requesting URGENT prayers for my 12 yo niece and 4 of her friends. They were in a head on collision this afternoon coming back from a function. Apparently she, my niece, has severe internal injuries, including severe head trauma. Also, she was burnt as both vehicles apparently caught on fire at impact. She has been transported to a hospital in Greenville, NC. The other little girls were taken to UNC Chapel Hill.

From what we have heard so far it will take a miracle for her to survive. I do not know the conditions of the other 4 girls. Please pray for them as well.

Thanks so much and God's Blessings to you all.

Thanks for the ping on the update and I read the information on the "accident", too. I am so sorry this alcoholic woman killed her son as well as herself and so severely injured all these people. I pray God will show us the way to a cure for alcoholism via genetic research.

The child may have been kept from pain via massive adrenalin and endorphin release at the time of the accident, and needs our prayers more than ever to get her through this very rough time as the natural painkillers subside.

And I pray the Lord to help especially the child with the brain trauma and massive burns. God will know what is best and will see that it is accomplished. This girl may have a very long comeback, but life will triumph in the end with the help of the Holy Spirit's daily comfort.

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done
In Earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
Forever.
Amen.

This morning's article with NAMES!!!! of the other little girls and updates on their conditions. All does not seem so dark and depressing after hearing this:

Children recovering form injuries

By Spaine Stephens, Rocky Mount Telegram

One child injured in Saturday's fatal auto accident on U.S. 64 West could be released as early as today from UNC Hospitals, and her younger sister remains in a coma in intensive care, their mother said Tuesday.

Natalie Cone, 7, and her sister Ashley, 11, of Spring Hope, were in a Jeep Cherokee Saturday when the vehicle, driven by the girls' stepmother, Jennifer Cone, 29, was hit head-on by a 1986 Chevrolet Nova traveling east in the westbound lane.

Natalie Cone remains in intensive care at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with second-degree burns and brain swelling, but her mother, Wendy Mayo, said doctors say she may come out of her coma in a couple of weeks. Ashley Cone, who suffered burns and a fractured hip, may be released from the hospital soon, Mayo said.

"I have a lot of peace right now," Mayo said. "I'm doing a lot better now, especially with Ashley doing real good."

Mayo said she got the news only recently that Ashley may be released soon, and that renews her hope for Natalie's improvement as well.

"There's a monitor in her brain; they're trying to keep the swelling down," she said.

Jennifer Cone suffered several broken ribs in the accident, but she is "doing really well," Mayo said.

Rachel Bissette, 7, of Spring Hope, another passenger in the Jeep Cherokee, remains in fair condition at the Chapel Hill Burn Center for third-degree burns and Mayo said Bissette is "aware of everything."

Skye Russell, 11, of Rocky Mount, the fifth occupant of the Jeep Cherokee, remains at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Her great-aunt, Geraldine Meisman, said Russell suffered internal bleeding, a severed right-thigh muscle, a cracked bone in her hand and colon damage. Meisman said further examination Tuesday revealed that Russell had a broken back as well.

Wanda Sue Sanders, 36, of Nashville, the driver of the Chevrolet Nova, was killed in the accident along with her 12-year-old son, Nicholas Ray Sanders. Although toxicology reports are not complete, N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper J.E. Brewer said alcohol use by the elder Sanders is a suspected cause of the accident, but that "we cannot finalize that."

Rosa Pearl Landen, great-grandmother of Natalie and Ashley Cone, said she was concerned because news of Brewer's initial difficulty in finding and speaking with Jennifer Cone gave the public the impression that Jennifer Cone was "running from the law," when in fact she was one of the victims in the accident.

"She was right there at the scene, and has been at Chapel Hill too," Landen said. "That was a fiery mess, that's for sure. They're blessed that they got out."

Landen said she had received word Tuesday afternoon that Ashley Cone could be released from UNC Hospitals as early as today.

Mayo said she and her family are grateful to the rescue workers who responded to Saturday's accident. She said the Jeep Cherokee exploded only four minutes after the occupants had been pulled to safety.

"There were a lot of people who stopped, including off-duty police officers that stopped to pull them out," Mayo said. "We want to thank them and everyone who has supported our family."

Thanks for that link Howlin. Tears are streaming down my face. I'm constantly amazed at God's continued presence, even at the worst of times. Thank God for those two brothers and their bravery and quick action. The girls were pulled out seconds before the car exploded. A sure sign of God's grace.

I searched for an article on this on WRAL's website the earlier part of this week and was surprised that it wasn't mentioned. Your post directing me to the video was the first time I had seen it there. I just bawled looking at the images and in thanks to the Lord for sending those two men.

My aunt Gerri ( the "Geraldine" mentioned in the newspaper ) article had to call the paper and set the record straight on some things! They were so pitiful in their coverage. At first they blew her off till she mentioned that she was calling WRAL. Then they listened with attentive ears.

On a happier note, the older Cone sister went home today!! God is so GOOD!

Thanks for the newest update.

I watched the video from WRAL and it was indeed a miracle that anyone could have escaped from that wreck. God is with those children and I pray that He continues to help them heal.

God Bless your aunt Gerri. She sounds like the kind of woman that I could really get to like. I hope that she keeps the phone number of the media and makes them toe the line.

I hope that the families are comforted by the latest news and know that, with God's help, things will keep getting better.
