I'm pulling for her, you, and your family. FWIW, I was blown up and nearly burned to death at age 12.... I really, really sympathize. Sometimes the Docs can pull a rabbit out of the hat and work a minor miracle; and human beings can be unbelievably tough. I wish you all the best.

My best friend, 7 years ago, was in a horrid car accident. It took the jaws of life to remove her and she had to be air lifted to U of M. She was in a coma with severe brain swelling on top of the multiple internal injuries she sustained. When I got the call she was not expected to live through the night. She did. She remained in a coma for almost 2 weeks and went through years of rehab but is currently completing her college education and has been taking Tai Chi for 3 years now.

Your niece can make it. Bring her favorite music to her for her to hear. Talk to her incessantly. Hold her hands, sing to her, love her. It is possible.
