Friday, March 08, 2002 - WASHINGTON - Rep. Tom Tancredo takes credit for thwarting the Bush administration's last effort to offer partial amnesty to thousands of illegal residents, but Thursday the outspoken immigration foe said he may have been outmaneuvered by the White House.
President Bush has struck a deal with the House leadership to place legislation that offers an extension of amnesty on its consent calendar before Bush heads to Mexico for a state visit next week, the Colorado Republican said. That action should ensure quick House passage of legislation that Bush has repeatedly sought from Congress. It would allow an undocumented person to receive legal standing, such as a valid green card, by filing a declaration with the Immigration and Naturalization Service. It presumably also would require the person to have been in the United States by a certain date and have filed a declaration with the INS from an appropriate sponsor, such as a relative or employer, and pay a $1,000 penalty. "The terms are still up in the air," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration, a group that has been allied with Tancredo. "We've heard to the effect that the president wants something to bring down to Mexico." The initial Bush proposal, designed exclusively for Mexicans, once was high on the president's legislative wish list, but it was delayed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. However, as the president noted Wednesday in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, he now is pushing for the extension of the amnesty program known by the section of immigration law that covers it, Section 245I. The president hailed it as a way to reunite family, separated by the border. "If you believe in family values, if you understand the worth of family and the importance of family, let's get 245I out of the United States Congress and give me a chance to sign it," Bush told the chamber members. Tancredo, the head of a congressional caucus on immigration issues and proponent of halting virtually all immigration, said he had blocked a previous attempt by Bush to push an extension of the amnesty program through the House. But this time, he said House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., had agreed to place the issue on the suspension, or consent, calendar, making it difficult to defeat the proposal. The Senate might be more favorable to the bill than the House, expanding the numbers of individuals who can apply, Tancredo said.
Below is a set of tables that represent the actual number of apprehensions in and around the Mexican border. All of these apprehensions took place between January 1, 2002 and March 10, 2002. These figures represent about 75% off all the apprehensions during this period. The missing apprehensions are from the border ports of entry and the airports in the border states. Also, some apprehensions do go unreported.
The official Border Patrol / INS stance is that for every alien apprehended, four get through. Most experts believe the number is double this. Keep this in mind.
At the end of this post I will post a final group of numbers. This group of numbers should outrage everyone.

Lets do the math.
From 01/01/2002 through 03/10/2002 the Border Patrol reported apprehending 212,156 illegal aliens in the US. Now some of these apprehensions are what we call recidivist apprehensions, so well will subtract the RC HITS from the ENCOUNTERS. 212,156 - 89,454 = 122, 702.
So, between 01/01/2002 and 03/10/2002 the Border Patrol apprehended approximately 122,702 new illegal aliens attempting to enter the US.
Now the fun numbers.
If they only apprehend 1 in 4, that would mean 490,808 illegals entered the US undetected.
If we use the experts figure of 1 in 10, that would mean 1,104,318 illegals entered the US undetected since January 1st.
Now for some more disturbing figures.
US and Allied troops that invaded Normandy in 1944 = 250,000 +
US troops that invaded Okinawa in 1945 = 550,000+
Illegal aliens that have invaded the US in 2002 = between 490,808 and 1,104,318.
WE ARE BEING INVADED.
Now imagine that just 1% of those illegals are from Middle Eastern Countries.
No.
But I know San Diego well, and for the most part, if you have money, its a very nice place with incredible weather. Lots of tall financial fences there too.
I know of one personally, that has a very large home, with an elevator in it. Illegal aliens aren't much of an issue with these folks.
Average Americans are being sold down the river. The rich elite have had the taste of cheap slave labor and they like it. The rich elite, and our so-called leaders could care less what the average American wants
No one that I know of ever thought Bush would actively pursue open border policies with Mexico and push for the Amnesty of millions of illegal alien lawbreakers, especially after 9/11. This will NOT BE FORGOTTEN by us 3 months from now or even 3 years from now.
Reforming our out of control immigration policies is of critical importance to us here and most of us are basing our votes on a candidates record and positions on immigration. And the reason why this issue will not fade away is that our immigration free for all has reached the crisis stage in many areas of the country and it will only spread and worsen in the absence of any strong counter measures--which are totally lacking at this time. Laugh us off if you want. Immigration reform will be the defining issue for more and more Americans in the months and years ahead.
Then, if you do the math for the past 10 years and then for the next ten years at the current rates...ugh! It is truly depressing.
This is outrageous, I never imagined it was this bad. If the houses passes to 245(i) tommorrow, I will go ballistic. We need American Citizens on that border to stop this invasion.
Welcome to Brazil. Incredible, this 180 degree change is all happening in my lifetime.
This WILL be the issue that decides my vote.
With the full knowledge and permission of the President of the United States and the "Government"
Amazing HUH?
The California Border patrol has their hands tied ..add Texas and soon they will all be moving up here...perhaps we should consider moving south..this place will be a big slum!
The average American out there who may not be following this issue, or is not high on their priority list probably has no clue what's really going on. These figures are frightening to say the least. What other country in the world is experiencing this?
Many just go back and forth as they please though, some of those numbers aren't exact---I wondered if the neighbor's gardener was going to have any trouble getting back because his and another family just went back to Mexico for an extended visit --but I saw the other day, they made it back. Border traffic is very high and only a few cars, trucks, and buses are checked at all.
That just can't be true. I just heard a MALDEF attorney on Hannity and Combs say that all 8,000,000 "undocumented" workers were hard working citizens contributing to the economy.
Maybe they could dump them on the lawn or use them for drums or something. It just blows my mind what people will steal if you give them the chance.
