Tancredo doubts he can block amnesty-extension bill
Denver Post ^ | March 8, 2002 | Bill McAllister

Friday, March 08, 2002 - WASHINGTON - Rep. Tom Tancredo takes credit for thwarting the Bush administration's last effort to offer partial amnesty to thousands of illegal residents, but Thursday the outspoken immigration foe said he may have been outmaneuvered by the White House.

President Bush has struck a deal with the House leadership to place legislation that offers an extension of amnesty on its consent calendar before Bush heads to Mexico for a state visit next week, the Colorado Republican said.

That action should ensure quick House passage of legislation that Bush has repeatedly sought from Congress. It would allow an undocumented person to receive legal standing, such as a valid green card, by filing a declaration with the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

It presumably also would require the person to have been in the United States by a certain date and have filed a declaration with the INS from an appropriate sponsor, such as a relative or employer, and pay a $1,000 penalty.

"The terms are still up in the air," said Dan Stein, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration, a group that has been allied with Tancredo. "We've heard to the effect that the president wants something to bring down to Mexico."

The initial Bush proposal, designed exclusively for Mexicans, once was high on the president's legislative wish list, but it was delayed after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. However, as the president noted Wednesday in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, he now is pushing for the extension of the amnesty program known by the section of immigration law that covers it, Section 245I.

The president hailed it as a way to reunite family, separated by the border. "If you believe in family values, if you understand the worth of family and the importance of family, let's get 245I out of the United States Congress and give me a chance to sign it," Bush told the chamber members.

Tancredo, the head of a congressional caucus on immigration issues and proponent of halting virtually all immigration, said he had blocked a previous attempt by Bush to push an extension of the amnesty program through the House. But this time, he said House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., had agreed to place the issue on the suspension, or consent, calendar, making it difficult to defeat the proposal.

The Senate might be more favorable to the bill than the House, expanding the numbers of individuals who can apply, Tancredo said.

You're dense, aren't you. I mean, how can one continue to classify Illegal Aliens as Immigrants. As you should know by now, Immigrants can only be Legal. Otherwise, they are invaders.

Thinden, you need to get on the list fer or agin the amnesty. And while you're here, how's about inviting Poohbah and Sinkspur to join in :-)

I don't think Pooh & Sinky need the amnesty. mancini may be a differnt case, tho.

I'm for lockin the doors, but then that would make life hell for tysons. where else would they git their chicken gutters?

Here is a "What If" scenario for you:

What if, tomorrow you fell in love with a woman that you though was the most beautiful woman in the world, she is the one you have been searching for all your life, and you can't see how you could ever live without her.

Now, the only problem is, she is an illegal alien living in the US and she is from Iraq.

Under your Immigration policy, she would have to be deported and you would have to move to Iraqi.

Now in my book, if you two got married, stayed in the US, she immigrates and becomes a citizen, and you two had children and one of your kids grew up to find a cure for cancer, that would be positive.

So what if this happened?

Don, thanks for the truly educated, rational response.

It's apparent that one world government is their plan. I mean, look at all the irrational laws they are passing, and look at how all the institutions (media, government, schools), etc. seem to be manipulating the American people by providing a slanted view, while at the same time not revealing the truth, and dumbing and degenerating the masses down.

Good Post.

Bump* excellent post, worth repeating.

But the liberals in America, who hate this country with a passion, can't wait to see us fall. I used to think we had 100-200 years left before the wheels fell off. I think now we have 10-20 at most. We will be swallowed whole by relentless tides of Third World migrants who could care less about American values, history, culture and language - and who hate Americans with a fury. Welcome to the multi-cultural wonderland.

Not to argue, but they did live for a considerable time in Midland,Tx. Sr. was the man at Zapata Petroleum, sold convieniently to Pennzoil upon his running with Reagan & Mr. & Mrs. Bush Sr. SHALL be buried on the grounds of Texas A&M. I think their infant daughter, dead of leukenmia, may have been moved there ( from Midland ) or shall be moved there upon their deaths.

I am still deeply touched that Sr. dropped his talks with Helmut Kohl-he literally just said I'm sorry but I MUST GO-& flew straight HOME the instant he heard of the awful deaths of the students at the A&M Bonfire, a couple of years ago. He was most sincere & deeply hurt, spent a great deal of time personally comforting all & especially the families of children yet to be recovered from the collapsed log pile-the moment he touched down at College Station...tens of thousands of Aggies from all over the state & the US had driven & flown there overnight ( just as had Mr. Bush ) & Mr. Bush walked amoung them doing what they were doing-crying & shaking hands & all the rest. He's as genuiune as they come & now he is from Texas-much more than most immigrants of the blessed North. He & his wife are sure as H--- a great deal nicer, personally than most of the Yankees I've had the 'pleasure' of meeting. My oldest son ( a student at A&M ) has had the most amazing & engaging, brief, chance encounters with this man, & he would share his time & attention with anyone.

I fully appreciate your statement-but Bush the Younger has naturally adapted the 'persona' of a dusty ole cowboy/ruffneck, all in favor of individualism & small folks, lecturing Pooten Putin at the ranch about land management by individual landowners, but ready to whip out the Homeland Defense & give life to the new national police to come with that. I was merely trying to illustrate where, in his heart of hearts, he is 'from' & how I think he & his many handlers have come to portray him. I also do think his personal family life, detailed in my previous comment, has had a very lasting result-he strives to please & that began at home, & his model is the ever advancing Father, seen through many advances & a few let-downs ( Sr. did lose at least one election & was out of the loop during Smilin Jimmy Carter's term ) & later defeat by the vermin. Mr. Bush surely learned a great deal from his earliest years & now has polished himself to a fine patina. His speech at the Repub Convention revealed his great anxiety ( he looked scared witless at first, at doing something much bigger than he had ever done before ) & I think his completion of the speech without any faux pax's was 'graduation' to full manhood, a new member of the Big One World Club-destined to be master of our universe.

Mr. Bush, the Younger, really believes, I think, he is doing what he is compelled by moral reasons, to do. All the more reason to question his strange approach to the Criminal Alien invasion. It actually hurts me to criticize these seemingly very decent people-but I must. They keep strange friends with inexplicable intentions.

Thank you again for your time-& I do really value what ever you have to say. I just feel we must have a very long break from ALL IMMIGRATION. I also think we must rid our nation of all who hate us & our system. ALL.

DANE & VA AVAGADO ARE THE SAME PERSON. The writing styles, words, etc. are all the same.

That's what I've been saying since yesterday. Take any series of posts from the two, hide the names, mix them up in a hat, and draw at random, and I don't think there is any way to tell which is from Dane and which is from VA Avogado. The writing style, the short, declarative sentences, the refusal to engage in any debate over the real issues, the virtually identical insults and virtually identical obsession with the same subjects - apples, lettuce, toilets, etc. - all indistinguishable.

That's why I have started referring to him/her/it as Danevogado, because I can't keep straight which avatar said what; they are interchangeable.

Also note Danevogado responds to his own posts by using his alternate avatars: Dane complements VA Avogado (or maybe it was the other way round) on being polite and articulate (hah!); VA Avogado returns the complement and gangs up on someone Dane is talking to, repeating the usual smears (drunk, on drugs, etc.). Danevogado is shamelessly sandbagging his own posts. I predict that when this thread eventually would have died of its own accord, it will be kept alive by endless posts of Danevogado talking to himself, long after everyone has ceased to respond to his/her/its creative typing.

Now, this guy doesn't seem to understand the concept of legal and illegal. Furthermore, he acts as though Illegal Aliens are true immigrants. What a joke.

That's SOP for all of the open borders crowd, whether they be neo-con Republicans or left-wing Democrats.

If this was the only type of immigration that was going on in this country for the last decade I would be on cloud nine.

LOL! You all are great entertainment.

You know what, why don't you all get a group together, rent some studio time and re-record the original tin foil song,

For What's it Worth.

Just change the line,

Paranoia strikes deep, into your mind it will creep

To,

Tin Foil strikes deep, into your mind it will creep

And you all will have an instant seller to the 85 or so people Vallandigham has kept a "list" of.

IMMIGRATION: to come into a country of which one is not a native for permanent residence

NATURALIZATION: to confer the rights of a national or to admit to citizenship.

This should be like apples and oranges to a lawyer, but then again, your not a lawyer.

So, Danevogado, why don't you actually answer the questions posed to you, rather than resorting to a constant stream of abuse and invective and race-baiting?

It's easy if you try; it might even become habit forming.
