The story is just breaking now because the informant only recently came forward. It was at a Feb. 15th party that Mallard told the story to her friends about what happened. Presumably it was one of her friends who passed a tip to the police(lets ask all the Dems what is the difference is between that tipster and Linda Tripp). The police then had to do investigative work to piece it all together, so there really would be no way for the media to know about this until the arrest, just a couple of days ago.

but proving that she actually intended that the victim die is not a slam dunk.

Oh, I don't know, What was she waiting for, For two or three days, Did she expect The victim to sprout wings and fly away?

THIS IS NOT A HATE CRIME. Not by definition. Unless she intentionally tried to run over him because of his race, it technically isn't a hate crime. Sorry.

Maranda advised that Shantae giggled when she said ?I hit this white man

How exactly can you possibly reason that this is not a hate crime? You would have an arguable point if she had hit the man and immediately called 911. Instead, she drove him into her garage, closed the door, watched him slowly die over two days, and then giggled as she discussed what she had done to the poor man.

In all fairness: for how many days was James Byrd dragged behind that truck?

This is a MUCH worse crime, and yes, it was a hate crime.

I was thinking the same thing as I read through the replies here. And the outrage IS apparent. But you're correct in saying that shouting "Hate Crime" at the top of our lungs will do nothing but hurt our cause.

I agree, more so-called saner minds can shout it from the roof tops "THIS IS NOT A HATE CRIME" till the cows come home. I am originally from Cincinnati and I know Black on White crimes when I see one. That poor man would not have been allowed to bleed and suffer in that windshield if he had been Black and that is a "FACT".

You're right, of course. She may not have purposely hit him with the car just because he was white, but she surely let him die because he was white. I don't know if that will be proven, though. I've never been in favor of "hate crimes," as I feel all crimes are hate crimes. However, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, and if this would have been considered a hate crime had the races been reversed, (and it probably would have,) then it should be a hate crime in this case, as well.

I'm afraid racial tensions will just get worse and worse. I rarely watch TV anymore, because so many shows have a Bad White People theme. The other night I was flipping through looking for something to watch, and it seemed on every channel there was a show dealing with predjudice by Whites against People of Color. PBS is really bad. We live in rural Alaska so we don't have as many channels to choose from like most people. But it is so discouraging to see all these shows blasting Whites. It can only have one effect, and that is to make the People of Color resent the Whites more than they already do.

BTW, I heard on the news that she is again under arrest, bail at $250,000(which means it will take about $25,000 to get her out),

Which means she won't get out. A bail bondsmen generally charges 10% of the bail amount to the client as a fee, and usually wants collateral for the rest, because if she flees, he has to forfeit $250,000.

I'm guessing that she doesn't have $25,000 since she drove a crappy car, worked as a bedpan cleaner, and spent money on illegal drugs. The kind of person who keeps a burned car seat in the back yard for several months doesn't strike me as the type to have accumulated a lot of wealth.

Nor is someone who doesn't even clean the hair and blood off the car from someone she knows she killed likely to have any brains. But I think that's the obvious from the start.

How do you know that she would have reacted any different if the guy stuck in her windshield were black? You don't, and reason suggests that she was doped up, and was simply choosing to avoid dealing with the issue.

As to her statement "I hit this white man", it could indicate she was racist, but it could just as well(and more likely) be simply an identifying description. Just like if I told you my neighbor is black. Does that statement make me racist? Of course not, you need to know the context, and we don't know the context of the conversation here. As someone else mentioned, aren't we better than the slimy media, Democrats, race-baiters? Just because they jump the conclusions that serve their agenda, does that justify a similar tactic on our part?

The first I heard of this story was on talk radio in Ireland this morning going to work...(and to my chagrin, hadn't woken up in time to check out FR before hitting the rat race). But people are horrified by this. BTW...I never thought that this was a black woman ever. (We don't think that way over here, really....race is incidental, when you live in a country that is predominantly white).

But this woman's actions towards another HUMAN are reprehensible.

When it was aired on Irish national radio this morning, people were horrified.
Drugs or no drugs. Surely there is some 'come down' period, or 'sober up' period, where morals come into play.

My God! This is horrendous.

(Maybe I'm too sensitive...once I ran over the rubber on a man's shoe..(not his foot, just the rubber on his shoe)..and he fell). I was driving at 0 miles an hour at the time. I stopped the car, got out, and he got up sayin'..'I'm fine, don't worry about it' (He had walked under the car in a predominantly pedestrian area). I got out of the car, started crying from fright, and rang his house three times in the following three days to make sure he was ok.

This woman scares the hell out of me. That is sick.

I can't get the picture out of my head of that poor man lodged in the windshield, pleading for help.

Me either. And I also can't imagine what this would have looked like, driving down the street! How far did she drive with him in the windshield? Even if it was at night, it's hard to believe nobody saw that. How bizarre!

Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle, Giggle

Tell me please, what WOULD be a black-on-white hate crime? Do they exist? If I accidently lodged a black man into my winshield, hid him in my closed garage for two days until he died (all the while begging for mercy), dumped his body and then laughed about the situation - would that be a "hate crime?"

How far do you think you would get with using that same statement reversed?

"I HIT THAT BLACK MAN", THEN GIGGLE WHEN YOU SAID IT!

I'll tell you, it would have gotten you national headlines with Al Shapton and Jesse Jackson bussing in Blacks from all over, surrounding the courtroom, shouting for your blood.

Yeah she was probably tuning around the radio dial, and fixing her makeup while this poor guys busted up torso was shoved through here windshield head first.

She drives home, parks in the garage and between commercials for a few days, goes out to the garage and tell this guy her sorry as he makes trama shock moans and bleeds to death.

I'll say it again, so read closely, maybe the pertinent facts will sink in. A Hate Crime requires deliberate intent to harm someone because of their race. Did she run over him because he was white? Very, very doubtful. Did she leave him in the garage because he was white? Again, very doubtful. Its quite obvious that she was simply avoiding dealing with the situation, uncaring of how it affected other people. She got the boyfriend to dispose of the body and hide the evidence. And if the colors were reversed, it is extremely doubtful that any prosecutor would bring hate crime charges. Her quote may indicate(with more context) that she was racist, but it doesn't indicate that she INTENDED to commit a hate crime, both in the initial accident, and subsequent kidnapping of the inconvenient victim.

Now would the media, Democrats, race-baiters try to contort logic and get this spun into a hate crime? They probably would try, and THEY are where our outrage should be focused regarding the racial element. I know many people want to find a reversed parallel to Jasper in order to make a point of a double-standard, but this case isn't it. The deaths of Ken Tillary and Jesse Dirkhising would be better cases in which to make that point.

My girlfriend's Asian. I introduced this story to her and gave her my views and her response was albeit that there's no excuse for what she did, blacks are treated differently, "have been the target of racism," as well as economically disadvantaged for so long, shouldn't it be expected that a high level of resentment might follow?.

I gave my own explanation its best shot, and that was not altogether persuasive (story of my life), but I'd appreciate anything further that might be added.

By the way, she gave her comments and suggestions to this post before it was sent.
