House Democrats expect that current minority leader Dick Gephardt will resign from the leadership post if his party fails, as expected, to win back the house from the Republicans. Gephardt would then focus all of his energies on a presidential bid.
Already Texas Rep. Martin Frost has announced his intention to succeed Gephardt should he step down. Although Democratic Whip Nancy Pelosi has been coy about going public with her plans, the California congresswoman has told several staffers in Washington and back home that she intends to challenge Frost for the leadership post.
Frost operatives have wasted no time attacking Pelosi. Several associates of Frost on the Democratic leadership team say Frost backers leaked information about contibutions Pelosi made to Democratic colleagues. In the most controversial, she gave 10,000 from her leadership PAC to Rep. Lynn Rivers, who is running against warhorse Rep. John Dingell for a newly redistricted Michigan seat. Pelosi stands to win big if Dingell loses: Her longtime friend and political ally Henry Waxman would be the new ranking member on the Commerce Committee.
"Waxman would do just about anything for Nancy," says a Democratic House member. "And she would do the same for him. There were other ways Nancy could have helped Rivers. The fact she did so directly had to be a message to Dingell on behalf of Waxman."

Just like Baldwin was going to leave the country if Bush won. I'm not holding my breath.

Is this a promise or a threat? Either way, it's undoubtedly a lie.

Everything I'm finding is editorials without concrete numbers. They state something along these lines..... polls found more women voted for clinton for his looks... etc, but give no real facts. hmmmm....

Yuck, he's ugly inside as well as outside. I simply can't fathom what
anyone finds appealing about that man. You couldn't pay me enough to be in the same room with him.
In fact, when he spoke at my husband's son's graduation at MSU, I refused to attend. I went to the dinner later that evening, after clintbilly had left town.

I would have done just what you did. I can't bear to watch or hear that maggot.
When the Packers won the super bowl a couple years ago, the team was invited to the White House to meet the president. Several prominate players refused to go and made quite an issue of it too. Gotta love the Packers!
I hope gephardt quits and runs for president. We have a good chance of losing him completely!!!

I believe they will be cancelled because by that time we'll be fully enmeshed in a holy war.

Thank you Ronnie.

I find it absurd that I can share a country with people who might actually vote for Gephardt for president. God seems to have been effectively removed from the phrase "one nation, under God". I believe "one nation" is gone, also.

Baldwin calls Bush the 'appointed' Presdient so he thinks he doesn't have to leave the country.

They won't have little Dick Gephardt to kick around anymore.
To: codebreaker
Little dick will focus all his energies on his presidential run? Won't he still be a representative? Doesn't that require a fair amount of energy?

Sadly, I predict that there will be another larger terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Politically, I would expect such an event to bring both the House and Senate under Republican control until there is no more threat. That will assure conservative judges, a strong military and an effective intelligence community.
As soon as the national security disaster left over from the Clinton watch is repaired, I expect the Democrats to start regaining some power. Hopefully, before that happens, the Republicans will reverse a lot of the extreme measures that have been necessary to thwart terror. I am not comfortable with the Democrats having that kind of power...

His staff is still in St Louis collecting the names off of tombstones to register to vote. No need; they have a persistent link to the database at the coroner's office....
And if they can't get enough dead voters to vote on time, they'll find a brain-dead judge to give the dead people more time to vote for a dead candidate, and elect him so his "career dead" wife can serve in his stead...and bore you to death....

Gephardt out-and-out stole the election from Bill Federer. I hope Bill runs again.
