Nationwide Alert Focuses On Arkansas Document Centers On Fake IDs

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- A nationwide alert to police focuses on fake identification cards from Arkansas, 40/29 reported Wednesday.

40/29 obtained a document that could link the al-Qaida terrorist network to Little Rock.

The Feb. 27 document, which is from sources outside Arkansas, has been distributed to police chiefs nationwide.

The document said that a large number of fraudulent state of Arkansas identification documents and driver's licenses have been recovered at a subject's residence in Arkansas. The subject may have possible ties to the al-Qaida terrorist network.

The names on the fake identification cards have been put into a national database, with the coach of catching anyone who might use them.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice would not comment on the document's existence.

STATE POLICE ON LOOK OUT FOR FAKE LICENSES

Police have charged two employees at the Pine Bluff Office of Driver Testing and another man, with 48 counts each of forgery and public servant bribery.

Police say the three helped people obtain licenses without meeting requirements. Steven Dalrymple is the prosecutor in Pine Bluff. He says it presents a dangerous situation. "I think it affects each and every one of us in a drastic sense that we have people that are getting licenses that are not qualified and the state police take that very seriously and this office has too."

Police say they have administratively revoked each of the fake licenses. The people who obtained them could also face charges.

Woman Uses Fake ID To Cash Checks

Police Look For Suspect

OMAHA, 4:51 p.m. CDT May 15, 2001 -- Omaha police hope that you can help solve a case involving a woman who targets banks with forged checks.

Police believe that the woman used a fake ID from Arkansas to cash a check from an older Omaha woman. But the check was forged, and the bank couldn't track her because her ID was bogus.

The woman has done this at least twice -- once at a Commercial Federal branch in Omaha and again at a First National Bank in Bellevue. Investigators believe that she has been doing this since March.
