You and anyone else who has been through, or is in, the dark night, might want to look at a book by Susan Muto, St. John and the Dark Night (I think), that does a really good job of restating the original in modern language. Makes things easier at the time and is very helpful to look at afterward.

To anyone on this path, peace and courage. To anyone critical of it, may God lead you beyond what you know.

I belong to the exEMCers group. We sometimes here of tech writing jobs. What part of the country are you looking in? This is a terrible market right now, but it does look like it's improving some.

Thanks for the good post. I hadn't heard of that book but I will be alert for it. Yes, you are exactly right. The translation from Spanish (or did he write it in Latin?) and the manner of speaking at that time make for a very difficult read. That and combined with the fact that it is so intense. I think that's why it took me so long to finish it. It was well worth it though.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'll look around for it...So far, I've learned among other things that this is the soul's winter, when no spiritual progress seems to be made, but in reality, the discipline of the prayers prepares the ground for the bounty of spring, sows the seed of new growth. I hope so, in Christ my Savior.

Major irony: the dark night feels like the most deadening, dangerous experience. In fact it is the safest route possible.

You've got FReepmail.

I have to agree Bill Gates is no saint he gives big donations to Planned parenthood which destroy life with abortion.

I was given more than I could endure. That promise is a load.

I started having epileptic seizures due to frequent panic attacks. I nearly killed myself a few times.

I wonder why I didn't sometimes, they agony was way beyond what anyone could endure.

Monty, two years have gone by since I was on this thread, and things are turning around for me. I cannot possibly relate to what you are going through, but my wife nearly died, recovered, got pregnant, and nearly died after her miscarriage. She, much more than I, can speak to maintaining faith in tough times. Hang in there. God is good.

My point is, that there are those that are given far more than they can endure. All suicides, including freepers who have done it, have experienced it.

The promise is a myth. Anyone is subject to more than they can handle.

But what if you can handle more than you know?

I thought that, then I started having seizures. The agony of those is hell on earth.

The medication controls it.. But I still have some sometimes.

The worst thing is, I'm so fragile now, it doesn't take nearly as much anymore to put me into that. I used up all my strength last year in the depths. It wore me out, left me.. weak emotionally.

I don't think I could put up with that stuff again. And my job's getting offshored now. So I'll be facing it again soon.
