Iraq warns U.S. attack would be like Vietnam

PARIS (Reuters) - The United States would face Vietnam-style defeat if it attacked Iraq, the country's deputy prime minister said in an interview to be published on Monday.

With Washington refusing to rule out an invasion of Iraq as part of its "war on terror", Tareq Aziz warned President George Bush to expect high casualties if he orders his forces in.

"If Bush junior invades Iraq, he will fail because the Iraqi people will fight to the end. For the Americans, it won't be a military parade," Aziz told the French daily, Le Figaro.

He likened Iraq to Vietnam when it expelled U.S. forces more than a quarter century ago.

"It was not the jungle that allowed the Vietnamese to win but determination. The Iraqis will fight in every street and every house," he said.

On Thursday Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri is due to meet U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who is hoping to bring about the return of weapons inspectors to Iraq.

Confronted with growing U.S. threats, Iraq has offered to have a dialogue "without preconditions" with the United Nations.

Arms inspectors left Iraq in 1998 and have not been allowed to return. They sought to verify Iraq has no more nuclear, biological, chemical or long-range missile programmes

I can think of three reasons why Iraq won't be another Vietnam: Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld

Isn't that what they said 11 years ago?

All right, who is writing the script for these guys? I do not demand that their ranting be sane but they should at least be fresh and original.

Blah Blah... mother of all battles... mutter mutter Vietnam... bipadee-bopadi-boo... quagmire quagmire.

It's like reading a Barbara Cartland novel.

Don't ask! *Shudder*

"And now we have a bunch of women as "proud marines".Lets get a thousand or so of these women to lead us to victory. Wouldn't that be special and politically correct?"

Forgive my ignorance, but what is that supposed to mean?

George W. Bush and Lyndon B. Johnson may both have been elected from Texas, but "W" is ain't LBJ and Rummy sure as heck is nothing like Robert Strange MacNamara. Furthermore, nobody is worried about China coming to Iraq's aid. Aziz is blowing smoke out his bum while whistling past the graveyard. Quite a trick really, come to think of it. :)

Memo to Saddam:

We kicked the VC's and NVA's asses every time we engaged them, but Walter Cronkite said we were losing and a bunch of spoiled yuppies-in-the-making couldn't be bothered with a war. Well, Uncle Walter is doddering around Martha's Vinyard and we have a totally professional military now, so if you insist on invoking the "Vietnam experience", well, prepare to meet allah.

Oh, yeah...Semper fi!

I knew a guy named Clancey once and all he ever did was get sloshed and fall asleeep next to the juke box....he was pretty silent, `til he tipped over and hit the floor of course.

Next time I scrap him off the tiles, I'll try to remeber to ask him if he has a brother. ;O)

How about 5 USAF gals in a BUFF doing a "grand tour" with B-61 Mod 11s ?(Mod-11 is the deep penetration version for messing up (wholesale) Saddams tunnels and bunkers.)

Any day now, they'll announce that while our soldiers are overseas, their wives and girlfriends will be cheating on them with Bart Simpson.

1941 was the last time Congress has ever declared war. All other wars have been undeclared.

"The Iraqis will fight in every street and every house," he said."

This pre-supposes that there will be any houses or streets to fight from... everyone repeat after me: J-DAM! J-DAM! J-DAM! J-DAM!

" The United States would face Vietnam-style defeat"

Pardon me...but Vietnam wasn't lost MILITARILY. It was a political decision borne of a flawed globalist vision. "Containment." HA!

The Lieutenant's from Vietnam are the GENERALS of today as well as the policy makers. They remember well and the first Gulf War is evidence of that. 100 hours of ground combat to total victory!

Iran, Somalia, Indonesia, Yemen, (the counrties that have high levels of support for Islamic Fundamentalism)..... and especially...those right here in the Good Ole USA...that is the most important venue to pursue.

I mean really, aren't you itchin' to know just who got the 9-11 heads-up states side?....some people did (and I mean non-muslims), and I want to know who!

IMHO, selected non-Muslims in the USA got a heads-up, Inquiring minds want to know who they were....I do too, first and foremost as those pricks are still in business.

Once the insider traitors are discovered, they can be hanged.

This is the EXACT SAME thing they told us last time..

Right before the mass surrenders.

They also told us it would be the "mother of all war's" and that we would basically get our ass kicked.

Yawn..

You know what? You're right Saddam. What were we thinking? It would be much smarter just to nuke the place so you won't be able to fight back. Thanks for the advice.

For the record, you guys are right, we lost the Vietnam war not in Vietnam, but right here in America. Politicians should never run a war, only declare it.
