LOL...I would not equate an ankle bracelet with wearing my brassiere on the outside of my blouse OR with false eyelashes...though I've always found false eyelashes to be fascinating. I've heard that some types require GLUE...imagine putting GLUE on your eyes!

You seem to be confusing the history of chokers ( a new name for an old piece of jewelery ) with symbols of bondage.

During the Victorian era, nearly every woman of quality owned an expensive black velvet ribbon, from which to hang their costly heirloon cameo.

The S&M stuff got popular in the '70's, which is recent history. Don't let the fact that the freaks stole a tradition confuse you about the origins of that tradition.

One peice of jewelery you SHOULD take exception to is the nose ring. Throught history - until now, that is - the nose ring was a symbol of slavery. Freemen didn't wear them. Yes, in Briton 1,000 years ago, white male slaves wore the collar. Not females.

While on the topic, tongue piercing is really bad news. I didn't realize until I learned recently that the wound never actually heals and it is a breeding ground for all kinds of ugly stuff.

I hate them anyway, but they are also extremely unhealthy.

In fact I have a wonderful choker that I bought at Neiman Marcus years ago that always gets comments. A black cord tied around my neck with an astounding heavy Barry Kieselstein-Cord cross. Oh, and one from Barney's New York ... a 24K choker chain with a filigreed cross with an emerald in the middle. Hmm, think I'll wear that one to work tomorrow.
