CAUSE OF GIRL'S DEATH COULD REMAIN MYSTERY

Police say they may never know how Danielle van Dam died, or when. The seven-year-old girl disappeared from her San Diego home February first. Authorities are now confirming that a child's body found by volunteer searchers Wednesday is that of the missing child. The district attorney says an autopsy performed confirmed her identity yesterday. The identification was made through dental records because of the condition of the body. Medical examiners are trying to determine the cause of death, but Police Chief Dave Bejerano says it's possible that we'll never know how, or when she was killed. A neighbor has been charged with kidnapping and murdering her. Authorities say they found the girl's blood on his clothing and in his motor home. He has pleaded innocent.

I agree, there is a lot of conjecture about this case. I've frequently gone out with girlfriends to celebrate birthdays, etc., but never until 2 am! Probably because I couldn't stay awake that long! :-)

Maybe it's naive on my part, but I think if Westerfield killed the child, he will eventually come clean.

What I'm exploring is that Westerfield did not kill Danielle per se. That he did encounter her in her room and took her away...but that she died for some other reason than her abduction.

Now, knowing he did nothing to kill her (even if he molested her, but that act may have been cut short when he realized she was deceased, hence the presence of a small amout of blood), he could not surrender to police and say, "I kidnapped her, but she expired unaccountably."

By the same token, the van Dams would not admit to giving her sleeping drugs to ensure she would sleep 11 hours and not interfere with their party.

The van Dams MUST raise the drawbridge to their personal activities to avoid concomitant actions from being scrutinized...true, they may have loved Danielle, and have they were doing the best for her, while raising the levels of opportunity for a predator orders of magnitude.

Perhaps Westerfield is betting that the van Dams will do something to deflect the spotlight of the law away from him, if he does not reveal the unwitting assistance of Danielle's parents in the crime.

Okay, here are some more thoughts for the open-minded. If Danielle was accidentally killed or not, she could have awakened at some point and started screaming. The killer could have put a pillow or something over her mouth to make her quiet and in the process accidentally suffocated her. This wouldn't show up on autopsy. Maybe Law Enforcement already suspects this? The drugging aspect is certainly a possibility I hadn't thought of. It would explain why her and her brothers did not wake up or scream when the intruder arrived. Another theory is that she knew the intruder well enough not to be afraid to go with him. This part has been bothering me the most of all this.

I've also been watching the body language of Westerfield and the VDs in that courtroom. The glances, the looks, the body language there, something's up..........

Believe it or not, you will find tongue piercing even more disgusting after you discover why people [girls, and -blecch- boys] wear tongue studs. Fortunately, I can't say any more than that in a family forum like FreeRepublic.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't be able to say any more than that in private, either.

And it's also why I wouldn't allow my daughter to wear choker/collars: It would break my heart to see her grow up to be the kind of young woman who sports a tongue stud.

I agree with exploring all the opinions that led up to her murder. I agree, and don't think it was a case of wanting the child dead, tho there are those who would disagree and say he killed the child so she couldn't identify him...it's a crap shoot right now.

Slick, OJ is not behind bars for life or facing the death penalty. And tho you are, without a doubt, solid, when you said the number 1 rule is "not to confess", IF Westerfield DID do this, and was given a life sentence or the chair, then with no way out, he MAY tell us what happened. It's not out of the question. (Wishful thinking, I know)...

I've thought about the chloroform angle. My daughter and a friend were sleeping while traveling to Italy from Switzerland on a train and were chloroformed (sp?) in the middle of the night and robbed. They never knew it and put up no struggle.

They only tasted something strange when they awoke and realized that their bags had been rifled through. They were told by the train personnel that it was a common problem and that it was chloroform. It must be pretty potent because they ripped the buttons off my daughter's shirt and she felt nothing. She didn't believe this act was a sexual thing; just looking for a concealed pouch of money or something.
