An Eagle Scout who was mistaken for a bank robber and shot in the face by an FBI agent in Pasadena on Friday remained in serious but stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center last night.

Joseph Charles Schultz, 20, was shot at close range about 6 p.m. Friday when FBI agents searching for a bank robbery suspect pulled over his girlfriend's car.

Schultz, who lives in the 7900 block of Seabreeze Drive in Orchard Beach in Anne Arundel County and works with fiber optics for a local medical company, has no connection to the bank robbery, officials said.

This time it's FBI agents out of control in Maryland. They just sent a couple of dog handlers on one of the county police forces to prison for letting the dogs unnecessarily bite some street winos.

We had one of their Prince George's County "specials" come over into Fairfax County VA and shootdown a college student.

There are many other cases.

Sometimes in the ongoing Justice Department investigations of police stupidity and corruption in the People's Republic of Maryland they'll send the FBI out to arrest somebody. Sometimes they have somebody else go out and arrest the FBI, or the other cops who work for federal, state and local agencies.

One thing for sure, if you are a cop in Maryland, it doesn't matter who you work for or at what level, the odds are great that you are terminally stupid, or simply evil.

No one understands why this is, but one of the best things we could do in this country is fire all the cops who live or work there.

"Huh I guess you live in a perfect world where accidents or incompetance never happens."

Dane, NO! We live in a world where accidents{?} and/or incompenence{?} is ignored if the perp was a federal officer acting "in good faith" and cannot be held accountable under the LAW of the early 80s "crime bill". OR if a congressional investigation is held, OR an "Independent" Councel is appointed to "investigate", OR the agency in question conducts the investigation into that agency's "misconduct". Nice times we live in. But, I agree that it is not the grunts at fault. It is the LAWmakers and leadership who make "accidents and incompetence" possible, and even EASY for would be JACK BOOTED THUGS!! Peace and love, George.

Geez Dane , I didn't realize your lack of reality extended to ALL phases of life. This happened right down the street from me. From what I have gathered around the neighborhood, the FBI guy on the passengers side just walked right up and fired while the man on the drivers side was telling them to raise their hands - which they were doing.

There is NO excuse for this. However, since you LIKE fascism - it should play right into your hands. Hell, they were teeneagers - they were probably going to smoke dope one day - so it's better just to shoot them now. Save time.

Everything from the agent, to the SAC, up to the training in Quantico is at fault in this one.

Poor Tactics, Poor Training, Poor Planning, Poor Execution... The list goes on.

Typical Bureau screw-up. The attitude has always been, "We're the FBI and we can do what ever we want! J. Edgar said so!" Never mind their training is poor, they only take on cases when they are open and shut, their investigative practices are 20 years behind the curve, and they now so focused on investigating terrorism, that actual victims of crime suffer.

Now don't get me wrong there are good FBI agents out there and investigating bank robberies is one of their high profile activities that they do some good work in from time to time. However, making a felony stop in unmarked vehicle, dressed in plain clothes, carried a sub machine gun, with your finger on the trigger is recipe for disaster. I'm suprised not more of these things happen.

Proper procedure if need to make a stop is to ask for local PD assistance, if available. If not exit your vehicle wearing your raid coat or windbreaker with the big yellow letters FBI on the back. (Kind of impedes good samaritans from maistaking your felony stop for car jacking and drawing down on you.... Just a little word of advice to all agents, from someone who works in the investigative / protective industry.) And never, never, ever, put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot and engaging a target / threat. (engrained in my head and my trigger finger since the time, I picked up a gun as a young boy.) Still every time, I go train on the firing line, I still hear the familiar phrase "Get your finger off the freaking trigger!" or some variation there of.

Yeah, one of my jobs is to evaluate these things. A SWAT officer shotgunned a kid in his own bed in my town due to a slippery trigger finger. And they had the wrong house too.

FBI firearms procedures are inadequate by California law enforcement standards.

You can only shoot so many innocent people until someone returns fire.

You are out of your skull. All regular Freepers support law enforcement, but this was clearly a major abuse of power, a horrible crime comparable to Lon Horiuka's shooting an unarmed woman holding a baby in her arms. I have regularly stood of for cops who were abused for doing their jobs, but this is completely beyond the pale. This guy should be indicted for first degree attempted murder. There isn't even a suggestion of an excuse for what he did, and if they had an excuse, you can believe we would have heard it by now, not a week or two later after they have had time to destroy the evidence.

I'm surprised the agents didn't torch the car and its occupants to hide evidence.

Kinda ironic that Maryland has become the largest heroin market in the U.S. for heroin entering the U.S. thru Florida.

Back in the mid to late 1980's two Maryland State judges were personally involved in cocaine trafficking in Worcester County, MD.

If you have the time,go read www.marylandcorruption.com you might learn something.

One other interesting tidbit is that one of the defendants in the MD/RICO in 1998 was being touted as a replacement for FBI Director, Louis Freeh in 2001.

"...plainclothes federal agents in unmarked cars pulled them over near Key Bridge Discount Liquors at 7212 Fort Smallwood Road... Carrying weapons that ... a junior honor student at Northeast, described as "assault rifles or machine guns," the agents ordered them to put their hands up, he said."

These federal agents need to be jailed, tried and then convicted, at the very least, for assault with intent to murder charges! If an ordinary citizen had done this, claiming "self defense" what would our Maryland government be doing about it right now? How many local and state laws have been broken here?

Just another horrible example of a very compromised and corrupt FBI.

FBI spokesman Barry Maddox said agency policy prevented the immediate release of the name of the agent who shot Schultz.

He also declined to comment on whether the agent has been assigned to desk duty pending an investigation of the shooting. Nor have FBI officials released information about how the shooting took place.

"It's an ongoing investigation, and under most circumstances we do not give out too much information," Maddox said.

yeah, right...our federal tax dollars hard at work again. Isn't this the same bunch who "do (did) not give out too much information" prior to 9/11? Is "national security" at risk here, too? /sarcasm off

Thanks HC

I am so discouraged ... between the patriot's act, gun seizure laws, corruption from the top to the bottom ... I fear it is all but over. Our Constitution is in tatters.
