I know the above is very long, but rarely have a read a piece which is so full of misinformation and is so strongly slanted to be anti Bush, but in reality succeeds in pointing the finger at the Clinton administration. My comments to the above follow. But as a point of note I am an Engineer, who worked with Bechtel from 1992 to 1996 on the Caspian sea pipeline project. I also am friends with a gentlemen who worked in Turkey on another aspect of the Caspian sea oil pipelines (there are several). My comments:

1) which stole from its own employees - Well, technically they did not steal, but what they did was very wrong and someone should go to jail. But bear in mind that those who lost the most did so out of greed in trying to capitolize on Enron's stock rise.

2) Were the consequences of releasing these documents more damaging than the consequences of destroying them? - Note the clever way the author mixes up Enron's destruction of documents, with Cheney's witholding of documents. On first read it sounds like Cheney was destroying documents. This is what the author wants you to think.

3)Start by looking at the India deal. Closely. I agree. Recall this deal was a Clinton administration deal.

4),8) and 10) Note the years, the Clinton years when this project was given the go-ahead.

5) The World Bank had warned at the beginning that the energy produced by the plant would be too costly, and Enron proved them right. The project was a stinker that only went through because of pressure and/or assistance of the Clinton Administration.

6) details, details. Afghanistan has no Persian Gulf port. It's sea ports are on the Arabian Sea.

7) and 13)Right now the only existing export routes from the Caspian Basin lead through Russia. Not true. One route leads from Tblisi to the Black Sea by going due west through, I brlieve it is Turkmanistan (my map is not current). A second also from Tblisi goes south through Turkey to the Mediteranean (this is still under construction).

9)Follow the map - Why should we based on your geography skills?

11)the Afghan visitors were invited to Washington - Wait, they were 'Taliban' in Texas, now that they are meeting with Clinton officials they become "Afghan visitor's"?

12) the Pentagon boasted ? You mean Clinton's pentagon boasted that they succesfully caried out Clinton's approved attack, don't you?

14) No matter which direction the Central Asia natural gas would eventually flow, Enron would profit. So? it is called covering your bases and sopunds like shrewd planning to me.

14') Estimated costs were almost $1 billion more than the route through Afghanistan, and engineering plans had not even started. Then how did they know the costs?

15)How Deeply Were Bush and Cheney Involved? Not nearly as deeply as the Clinton administration.

16)contribution of over $600,000 to advance the political career of the man who now holds the White House. Yes, yes, Kenny boy spent like a drunken sailor. How much to the Dems? 40%?

17)1988, Bush allegedly called... My Gawd, Bush made a phone call 14 years ago? IMPEACH IMPEACH!!!!

18) human rights violations had occurred yes, they did.........During the Clinton administration!

19) The crisis came just a few months after the Bush inauguration. Note how the author cleverly follows Enron with this sentence. Implying that Enron and Bush are hand in hand. But the women dragged and beaten occurred five years earlier under CLINTON!!

20) Cheney has his first secret meeting and 21)Did Enron lobby Cheney for help in India? So these are the secret meeting where Lay was pleading to be bailed out of a bad deal promoted by Clinton? Cheney thanks to his expereince with Haliburton recognized a loser when he see's one and says to Kenny Boy:
"Don't let the door hit you on the way out, pal"

20'"acted as a sort of concierge service" - My gawd, they made reservations? They were polite to visitors? This is horrible!! IMPEACH I SAY IMPEACH!!

21) whose positions on Afghanistan changed in sync with Unocal's own. Wait a sec, I thought Enron was the bady guy? Now we are helping Unocal, enron's competitor? How much did unocal give us?

22) nor could it count on the players they helped bring into power. Wait, I am confused again. I thought we were not supposed to help these guys? Now you are complaining that we did not help them? Which way do you want it? Oh, yes your a liberal: both ways.

23) What could be more incriminating than that? How about the meeting notes of the Clinton officials who set up this whole disaster of a project?

Look here now, this Ron Callari, Albion Monitor, could very well be an AlQeada operative trying to throw everyone off his trail.

That's why you don't need to bother answering his nonsense!

Michael.SF.,
What do find unrespectable about shady business deals or using politicians to swing the load your way? Money has been buying power since it was created. That's what our government runs on. (and every other government in the world) "Take from the people to keep the power in your hands" is what every beginning politician is taught. Don't expect to find honor or integrity in either of these groups, it's long gone, friend.

--just can't really see any successful pipeline down through afghanistan. It can be attempted and probably built, but I would guess it would get blown up on a regular basis.

So, why would they still keep trying? Second guess, great way to still make money by skimming profits from investors during the construction phases, then 'reluctantly" abandon the project after it's implication proves futile and not profitable. Can see it now "unipipelineco, a joint consortium of companies from the countries of xxx, has declared bankruptcy due to continuuing instability in the nation of afghanistan and etc yada yada. At one time their stock was trading at 156 and is now down to 3.5". some such like that. Gee, we're so sorry that we didn't succeed-giggle-and all this money - more giggles- has been "lost" and we can't find it. We're so sorry

Third guess, eventually that gas will go directly into china, the golden boy nation of these people, and where the market will be. These fatcats see china as the planets next superpower, and want "in" at the ground floor level and to make sure they are appreciated by the chinese.

Not to attract flames to myself, but regarding the oil pipeline from the Caspian to the West...

If one were to study the topics of conversation of the Bilderburgers conferences, one would find that Yugoslavia was discussed severl years before the Bosnian war, Serbia was discussed several years before the Serbian war, and Afghanistan was discussed several years ago.

One would wonder whether these were coincidences.

Seems like the former king, among others, had some support for at least interim leadership. Karzai is a former Unocal consultant so we know why he was chosen. Be interesting to learn who owned the other players

'The Taliban do not have any links to Islam's international radicals. In fact, they hate them,' says Rubin. The Taliban are Sunni Muslims like those in Saudi Arabia, not Persian Shi'ites like the followers of Ayatullah Khomeini, and 'are not into exporting revolution. Nor are they hostile to the U.S.,' says Zalmay Khalilzad, an Afghan-born senior analyst at Rand Corp., a Los Angeles-based research organization. If the regime is not led by international radicals, the U.S. cares little who governs Afghanistan as long as it is governed."

This is a typical muslim lie, designed to deceive the "infidel" about muslim plans for jihad and conquest!!!! Saudi Arabia is arguably the BIGGEST exporter of islamic terrorism and subversion in the world, and the Taliban is one of its agents!!!

This statement also suggests that the "neoconservative Reaganite" muslim Zalmay Khalilzad is in actuality a muslim fifth columnist and a traitor!!!
