The bell has been ringing rather loud lately, I might add.

The Bush-bots are out in force this morning. At what point will they stop defending this nonsense?
Ten seconds after the Kool Aid has had a chance to work on their systems. And not a moment sooner.

I have no problem with planning for potential chaos situations so as to be able to mobilize emergency services.... It's called leadership and forethought.I agree. This sounds like nothing more than prudently having a backup. No tinfoil hat required.

Sorry - but the continuation of the government in case of a major attack is a responsibility of the government. I don't see your point but I am not prone to think in terms of conspiracies.

i wonder if America's armed citizens are considered allies or enemies by these subterranean rulers Possibly you spend too much time playing with your gun.

Yep. I'm not supposed to say this, but there's a shadow, shadow government for real emergencies. I will hold the position of Supreme Dictatorial Emperor. There will, of course, be elections, but my slogan will be:
Ruthless but fair . . . but ruthless.

Look at it this way; when was the last time the USG did anything to make you, ahem,
more free... if they are expecting a major attack, some pointers on what us civies should prepare for would be nice. I know, I know, "that would just panic the people...."
Some of us are more prone to looking for a solution than s***ing ourselves in a crisis, and are perfectly willing to look after ourselves. But, I guess smart and self-sufficient isn't what they wan't, hmmmmmm?

Conspiracies?!?!? This is an open declaration of what they are doing! No conspiracies involved friend. And what they are doing is not "continuing government" in anything close to the form that "we the people" agreed on when we ratified the Constitution.
This isn't a "government continuation", this is establishing a whole new form of "government". Previous COG plans usually always involved sequestering Congress and the Pres/Vice Pres, to try and at least maintain the facade of the what the government of the United States should be. This one doesn't even pretend, it establishes an unelected oligarchy, and you're still swallowing the Koolaid?
Come on man, if you think this is some kind of conspiracy theory, something's just not right.
To: Lumberjack
Gee, I wonder if good ol' Ollie North was in on the planning.

Establishing--and maintaining--the shadow gov't was a prudent, necessary step in the wake of 9/11. What concerns me is this: the fact that the so-called shadow gov't is still in business suggests the nuclear terrorism threat cited in this report is very real, and much more credible than the gov't has disclosed. All those stories about missing backpack nukes and bin Laden's nuclear interests may not be so far-fetched afterall.
Once again, the Post misses the real story. We've established a shadow gov't largely because of the threat of nuclear terrorism. Well, just how real is the threat, and what is the public NOT being told?

As a Prophacy believer, my eyes were opened to politics when Clinton was elected. My eyes were opened to Revelation when he Showed his true color - black! Just like old crusty.

"Let's see. Being prepared for attack is a bad thing if done by a Republican administration. The lefties and the media are desperate for some issue any issue to diminish Bush. Weak very very weak."
Actually I have no problem with being prepared(ex-Boy Scout), but it is the preperations that are what bother me.
Worse case scenerio...DC destroyed..all high ranking officials done in...Who takes over? A group of 100 or so appointees. Is that what you really want?

Well that settles it. Now I know that I'm right in my opposition of this project, if sinkspur comes out in favor of it.
Thanks for the reaffirming hug sink ol' bean.
PS - I think that there are more than 100-150 members of Congress, last time I checked. That means they ain't using Congress. In fact, if you had bothered to read the article, they mentioned that these bureaucrats would be civilians.
ooops!

Big Amen Bump.

Let me get this straight. An unelected goverment if the other gets hit? Having total and absolute power? No, continuity in government, read as stability by the rest of the world, particularly those that would be concerned about our nuclear arsenal suddenly without the proper controls. We have a responsibility to have this system in place and we would expect the same from the other super powers.

Good posts. This "shadow gov't." is maybe a surprise for some but IMO we've had one operating for a long time prior to this new revelation.

A good self-barometer is always who one's enemies are. Looks like you are right again!
