80,000 Freepers and Growing - Freepathon
3-1-02 | Topaz

Posted on 03/01/2002 4:59:36 AM PST by Topaz

When Jim Robinson started Free Republic in September, 1996 to expose the corruption in government and particularly the Clinton Whitehouse, he was alone. Now six years later, Free Republic has 80,000 registered members and who knows how many visit this site often, just to keep up on the latest conservative thinking.

Folks, you all know where this is going, Free Republic is a user supported website and it is time to support it. Four times a year we have this freepathon to donate a few dollars to pay for the bandwidth and expenses necessary to keep Free Republic online, and we do so with gratitude and cheer because of what is offered and accomplished by the existence of Free Republic.

Free Republic does not charge a membership fee or get supported by a government grant. No, people from across the World make donations large and small because they see the value of Free Republic. So if you're one that appreciates this site and want to see it continue, please send in a few dollars to help keep it alive.

I'm not running it (not enough time, and the snow predictions are climbing), but NEW monthlies (and the added amounts to existing monthlies, e.g. a $20 monthly going to a $30 monthly is counted as a new $10 monthly) are tripled in the state-by-state race.

As we approach the end of the Freepathon I add three times our monthlies to give the total a big boost. Last time I added $16,000

This time it will knock your socks off . : )

I am looking for the day when we start a Freepathon, take in one buck, add the monthlies and declare it over. : )

I do a monthly but I always feel left out during the Freepathon so here's $50 from New York (we were looking a little anemic on the list).

We who live in free market societies believe that growth, prosperity and ultimately human fulfillment, are created from the bottom up, not the government down. Only when the human spirit is allowed to invent and create, only when individuals are given a personal stake in deciding economic policies and benefitting from their success -- only then can societies remain economically alive, dynamic, progressive, and free. Trust the people.

Thank you!

I feel that my monthly donation and other's monthly donations, plus the amount collected each quarter does two things:

1. Enables all of us to get the real news not the political agenda prop spin of the left.

2. Enables us to react and have impact on the politicians, corporate heads and others when they try to drown us in socialism disguised as good things!

I can't really put a value on #1 and #2. I just know that I don't want to be without Free Republic and its great members in our constant Cultural War with the Left.

LOL! FWIW, I can't afford much, but I love these FReepathon threads, for the exact reason you cite. But thank you for your compliment. My words mean little, but those of the "Gipper" are awe-inspiring. If you get the chance, read "Reagan, In His Own Hand: The Writings of Ronald Reagan That Reveal His Revolutionary Vision for America". His speechwriters (with due apologies in advance to all of them, Ms. Noonan included) only polished up his thoughts, not created them.

It is a full plate. Short story, the local fishwrap, 2 months after being scooped by an online journalist and just after being re-scooped by a local magazine on the massive platinum parachutes the county board voted itself, Boss Hogg (FU Thomas Ament) and his cronies (which happened immediately after the November 2000 elections), finally caught onto the story. The local seasoned citizens rightly got outraged over the potential $2.3 million payday that FU Ament was looking at if he survived to 2008 (the current term plus 1), and started a recall. The local midday talker (owned by the same company as the fishrag, but rather conservative) really leapt on board, with the editorial board of the fishrag waking up long enough to see what's coming.

In short, while we needed just under 73,000 signatures in 2 months, we got 182,000 in just under a month. After an aborted attempt to get the entire process thrown out (aborted when the local Elections Commission accepted the petitions and rejected the FU Ament plan to lose them in the county bureacracy "copying" them), FU finally saw the light and resigned just in time for a special election primary to be held with the general election (side note; the RATs, who didn't plan, want to delay this and cost us taxpayers another $250,000, which they call "a little bit of money" (yes, that is a direct quote)).

The next step is the 20 supervisors who snuck this in while everyone was focused on Florida. 2 of them already have enough signatures collected to force a recall election (if they're validated), and the effort against my "supervisor", which just got started last week, is already better than 25% there.
