If an airport screener ever missed something that obvious they ought to take the screener out back and shoot them in the head. Some people shouldn't be left to breed more idiots.

Which goes to show that they can manufacture just about any reason they need in order to have "probable cause." If they had found a screw driver or a pair of wire cutters they could have called those "criminal tools" and used that as a pretext. The Bill of Rights means whatever the courts says it means. Sometimes it's a good call, but lately it seems to be going the other way.

TIA....TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. ;-)

Just a little bit of trivia for ya...did you know that when they build the race track in Phoenix, AZ they were going to call it Phoenix Motor Speedway...but decided to change it...ya know why????

They didn't want the letters abbreviating it: PMS...roflol!!! That's a true story!!!;-)

What is it in Texas? The Sam Houston Institute of Technology? I had heard that was the prior name for Rice. I don't know if it is an Urban Legend, though.

Of course refusing to allow them to search the car is probable cause enough for them to impound it and THEN get a search warrent on such grounds.

No, it isn't. There is a specific federal court decision that explicitly says that refusal to grant permission for a search is not probable cause for a search.

Unfortunately, the website that itemized these precedent-setting decisions is no longer available.

but after that, what would be the charge?

I would assume that any kind of explosive device is illegal, whether or not it's inert. They've got good reason to get strict on what's banned.....and he should have known better, one would think.

I doubt that a "cherry bomb" could do ANY damage to an airliner...... And an "inert" one at that. Who makes up these headlines?

When I was a freshman in high school, I had a boy friend destroy a toliet in the boys bathroom with an M80. I think he got a 2 day suspension.
