My wife and I are both public school teachers. We both teach additional day and after school classes. We both teach summer school and I have another job as a security guard. Combined total we earned @ $119,000 in 2001. IRS has already taken @ $19,000. It looks like they want another $ 3-5,000 on 4-15-02.

Farmall is not whining here about "being poor" because of taxes. Neither am I. We are not poor.
What infuriates taxpayers such as farmall and myself are facts such as these:
50% of all workers pay no income taxes at all. Zero, ZIP, NADA!!!
The top five percent of workers (including me) pay 95% of all income taxes.
Most importantly, the tax code is rigged to punish success and what it takes to be successful--working hard in school, going to college, staying off drugs, not having babies out of wedlock, etc.

My wife and I have 8 kids and one income. Our total is around 57K and we paid about 3K in taxes. We expect to get it all back, again, plus another 3K in child tax credits.Congratulations. So, how's it feel to be suckling on the government teat?
;-D

At what income level is 25% too much?Since you ask, I'll go back to basic principles.
I believe federal government expenditures should be reduced and federal income tax should be a flat 20% with limited deductions.
Perhaps after November.

You're crying all the way to the bank, right?
I work for one of the two major delivery companies; I am a courier. I love my job and mentally add thousands to my yearly income for that benfit alone. Add to that all the company benefits I receive and I figure i'm making, oh, well short of 95 thou.
P.S. The mental add-ons are tax free!

It feels a whole lot better than having my wife work and my kids in public school so that I can pay 19K to the gmt.

To paraphrase another poster, where's the sob story? The only sob story I can think of is that it's a shame we don't have either a flat tax or a VAT instead of an income tax.
I'm with Sean Hannity on the idea that if we must keep the income tax, we should get all of our money that we earn up front, with no witholding so that we can enjoy the interest benefits, but then write out a check at the end of the year for the total tax bill.
After just one year of this, and the ensuing riots in the streets, we would then enjoy a much lower tax rate

Drug dealer gets tax free income. The ones I'm aware of are rotting inside prison.
I'll gladly pay the police to put a few more on ice.

The top five percent of workers (including me) pay 95% of all income taxes.Flat tax is a good idea.
All income earners should pay tax.
Meanwhile, people earning in the $125,000 range are paying about the same tax as they would if pure flat tax was legislated, don't you think?

I'm pointing at Houston on the map, you deve! :)
BTW, if I go barbarian again this year, I'm wearing pants. A ventilated skirt isn't the best concealment against determined drunk rednecks.

I'm with you on this one. Everytime I look at all those deductions on my paycheck I just get angry. I get angry thinking about all the crap my money goes towards that I may or may not agree with or benefit from. I get especially angry when I drive by liquor stores on Wednesday mornings and they have people stocking up for the day. Maybe I have reverse class envy - and wish someone would pay my way so I wouldn't have to work on anything but a buzz.
I try not to think about it too much cause it makes my head hurt.

Sometimes I think you do a google search on FR for the word "drugs".

Drug dealer gets tax free income.LOL!
. . .and free room and board if caught, convicted and imprisoned
And if they're not caught, they can be the Governor of Arkansas!
To: farmall
Apparently you're not a Democrat that feels they do not pay enough in taxes. You seem to be on the verge of almost being unAmerican!
WORK HARDER!
To: farmall
My favorite part is having Turbo Tax tell me about all the deductions I CAN'T have because we are too successfull.

The ONDCP, run by elite millionaires, recently spent $3.4 million of our money on two 30 second TV ads. How many hours of work will it take Americans to pay for it?

Not to mention the penalty for having the temerity to wed a WORKING SPOUSE. What kind of sick joke is it to tax married wage earners at higher rates than single wage earners? Sheesh.
