SAN DIEGO San Diego Police, who have searched David Westerfield's home several times since Danielle van Dam vanished from her Sabre Springs home, arrived there again Wednesday night for another search they said could last several hours. They did not say what they were looking for.
One of the case's chief investigators said late Wednesday, however, that there would not be an arrest Wednesday night.
They previously seized a motor home and other property belonging to the 49-year-old self-employed engineer who lives two doors down from the van Dam family. Investigators have also taken a DNA sample from Westerfield and sent it to an FBI crime lab for investigation, police Lt. Jim Duncan told reporters Tuesday.
On Tuesday, investigators used a bloodhound to search the van Dam home. They declined to say whether the dog found anything.
The van Dam family announced Wednesday night they were scheduling a news conference for 8 a.m. Thursday in front of their home to discuss their daughter's disappearance. They did not elaborate.
Danielle's parents have offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the safe return of their daughter. Earlier, Marc Klaas, who became an advocate for missing children after his daughter was murdered in 1993, met Wednesday with the parents of the 7-year-old San Diego girl who police believe was abducted from her bedroom.
"I can emotionally give them support and tell them what to expect," Klaas told reporters after meeting with Damon and Brenda van Dam, whose daughter, Danielle, was last seen Feb 1.
Danielle disappeared after her father put her to bed. Investigators have called Westerfield, a neighbor, a "potential suspect" but have made no arrests.
The case has sparked intense media attention and Danielle's disappearance was featured Saturday night on the crime-fighting show "America's Most Wanted."
Duncan told reporters Tuesday that the investigation was progressing slowly. "We do not appear to be close to an arrest," he said then.
Klaas' 12-year-old daughter, Polly, was abducted from her home in Petaluma during a slumber party. Her body was found 65 days later. Richard Allen Davis was later convicted and sentenced to death for the crime.
Since then, Marc Klaas has worked as an advocate on children's issues through a private foundation and has assisted in searches for missing kids. "I won't say I can help them recover, because you don't recover, but I'd like to think I can help them deal with this a little bit," Klaas said.
Did you hear John call Mrs Van Dam, "Patsy Ramsey" on friday I think it was. I nearly choked on my carne asada when I heard that.
2 things really get me about this case
1) Mom deflects any lifestyle question by saying it has no bearing on the case.
How does she know? Maybe someone they had over for a pokefest last month may be involved. Until they have the proof and an arrest, it is a possibility
2) The picture that is circulating the world of Danielle was taken the day she dissappeared for a passport for a trip to Italy the following week. I have yet to meet a person who could get a passport in 5 days. Seems convienient that they just happened to get a picture the day she dissappeared.
I have many more questions about inconsistant stories, timelines, etc., but Ill leave them for now.
Well however you were "about it" some judgmental people would find something suspicious about it so that means nothing.
"Of course I also wouldn't hire a PR firm, have orgies on my garage,"
They were on the garage roof? What orgies are you talking about?
"or not realize my child was gone until 930 am."
So if a kid sleeps in in the morning they should be checked on every 15 minutes from 6:00 AM on or so??
"I caught a glimpse of mom in the background of a live shot on the news the other day, and she was primping her hair in the reflection of the car window before going out front."
I guess she should forever refrain from combing her hair or whatever for the rest of her life. Hmmmmm. Interesting concept.
"make me very skeptical. The whole story of that night just sounds fishy".
That's not the only thing that's fishy.
Dad tucked the kids in and grabbed a nap while waiting for 'mom' to bring home her sex toys...then they played behind locked doors while their daughter was being raped and killed...'Dad' either sent or allowed the mother of his children out to party and troll for sex partners while he waited at home to prey upon her catch-napped to preserve his energy....expecting her to drag home others like her-introduce then into their home and while the children slept-then engage in sex with strangers....
Why is the world shocked that their daughter is a victim?...When you open the doors of your house to a depraved world, all may visit....So why cry about the outcome?
What we have here are two very neglectful parents....And one very tortured little girl.
Place the blame where it belongs.
Parents have priorities....'Swinging singles' don't belong in a home with children....Mom can spend her time and energy teaching her kids to read....cleaning their house....making their meals...Dad can provide a safe place for them all if he were to bolt the door against such dangers...Both can set standards of behavior that protect the family against all possible dangers from the outside world...Yeah, those dangers exist, even right next door...
Come on, where is the public outcry?
Where are the real parents who still have the instincts parents need?
Source??
Hi! Now you have! Believe it or not, I got my passport issued overnight... Bottom line is, you can pay a higher fee for a 'rush' job... :0)
I think that a lot of things are fishy. Maybe it's unfair to judge the parents by their behavior, but it can hardly be denied that certain things make no sense.
Why would one even have an alarm system if when triggered it is ignored?
After the reports of possible child pornography in the possession of Westerfield and now the reported removal of a tripod, I'm beginning to think that may be an important clue.
One theory that crosses my mind is that perhaps the mom and Westerfield together could have possibly involved Danielle in pornography. Even if the mom is not directly involved, she may have been instrumental in contributing to the child's vulnerability.
It might explain why there is little reaction on her part when questioned about Westerfield. I think they might both be responsible in some way.
Just curious, but you have already tried and convicted the Ramseys in your other posts, yet this couple you have deemed innocent. Why? No offense, but it does seem a bit hypocritical.
The girl is still missing, so how do you know she was raped and killed? If this happened, it seems like something only the perp would know. Is there something you want to get off your chest?
Here's a news story with a good video link worth watching, shows, for one, the cops taking out evidence from the neighbor's home:
Parents plead for search to continue
Hit link "Watch it in the feed room"
Me too. My "BS Detector" went off shortly after Danielle disappeared when the story came out about Westerfield running into Mom at the pool hall and dancing with her ... then she flat out denies it. The parent's interview on Larry King Live this week was odd at best. I'm guessing but I wouldn't be surprised if the parents AND Westerfield are involved in this together.
