Larry asked them about it just now on Larry King Live (2-11-2), and they refused to deny it.

I can't help but feel this folks should never have had children and that their surviving kids should be removed from their homes.God help little Danielle, and God help her two brothers too.

The father looked very sincere to me, not Ramseyesque at all. But who knows. thanks for the info on the neighbor... maybe he was there, and just grabbed the kid? Is the open sliding door story just an unrelated fact that makes a break-in sound plausible, or an attempted coverup?

If it has nothing to do with the little girl's disappearance, than why bring it up. That's a big if.
To: Hildy
If this is correct about their lifestyle, then they endangered their child by the unsavory types they brought home. What's the likelihood that a swinger couple would bring home a pervert or two during their little romps? Knowingly or unknowingly? They obiviously were more concerned about their own sexual wants, then they were about their kids saftey and welfare.

If they're not cautious about the people they have their "sex habits" with, they put these wee ones at risk. An article I saw reported that the mom brought some people home who she met at the bar, but that they stayed about 15 minutes. But they were in the house for that 15 minutes.
And the kicker is that ma and pa didn't check on the daughter from the time the husband went to bed (10 p.m.) until 9:30 a.m. the next day when a neighbor kid came over to play. This in spite of having at least one door opened while the alarm system was on.
This just gets curiouser and curiouser. Bring some barflies home and they stay 15 minutes?
And the neighbor under suspicion says he danced with the mom at the bar. She says she doesn't remember that.
Wow!

My first impression of Mrs. Van Dam....Susan Smith!
To: JavaTheHutt
Didn't Susan Smith (who drowned her children) take and pass a lie detector test, too? It was several years ago, so my memory might be in error.

Maybe I'm turning liberal or something, but it seems a little cruel that their sexual habits are becoming fair game for the whole damn world while they are also having to deal with a missing and possible dead child. What is the likelihood that the little girl would be missing if her parents weren't into "swinging" or some other "alternate life style"? What is the likelihood that the little girl would be missing if her parents had spent the evening at home and tucked her in? It's not a matter of "sexual habits", it's a matter of parental responsibility.

God help that little girl. It's a long shot but what if the little girl woke up and saw her mommy making out with some stranger and freaked out and fled this mess?
To: jackbill
Her Father was home all evening. Is that an indictment on ALL Fathers? Come on..crap happens.

With those kinds of lowlifes, one can only wonder. I saw her on a news clip today, and did not get a good feeling about her.
To: Ole Okie
Perhaps she was in an alcoholic black out? And that's why she can't remember.

Sadly, you're right on the money.
To: Petronski
I agree.
To: golitely
Yes she certainly did, and I'm not saying that just because the mother passed a polygraph that she isn't involved.
I find it peculiar though, that the police would say the mother has taken and passed a polygraph, and then clam up about the father or the neighbor suspect.
To: BurkeCalhounDabney
That would be pretty funny, if this wasn't so tragic. My feelings are they are never going to find this little girl or if they do it'll be a body. G-d bless this child.

If the father was home all evening, what the heck was he doing? Oh, that's right, he was helping out with the wife-swapping drunkathon in the garage. How crass of us to find fault in that. (On the other hand, if he'd checked on his daughter just once, maybe she'd have avoided whatever fate befell her.)

RUMOR ALERT
This is an account of the Rick Roberts (KFMB 760 San Diego) radio show mentioned in the story above.
David Westerfield gave a *half-assed* confession. He has told police he did it and could take them to her (Danielle), but he wanted a lawyer first. He hired the lawyer yesterday. They are in heavy duty negotiations right now regarding his confession. A significant amount of kiddie porn was found in Westerfield's house. He is not a registered sex offender. The Van Dam's are *swingers*. They swap partners. Westerfield had approached them in the past about their parties. He wanted to have one at his house. Mrs van Dam was seen *grinding* on the dance floor and left and possibly*did* a guy in the parking lot. She left with 2 women and 2 men. They all went to the van Dam's residence from the bar. They were partying and smoking marijuana in the garage (3 men & 3 women) when Danielle was abducted, they were not sleeping. All the adults had sex. Mrs van Dam gave one of her friends to her husband .The garage had special locks on the inside so the children could not get in. After the sex party broke up, Mrs van Dam found the open door and alarm blinking , but did not check the children. She went and closed their bedroom doors. Prior to the party Mr van Dam was awakened by the dog whinning ,( it cannot bark)had found a door open, and alarm blinking. He did not check the children.
What is the value of a 'rumor?' I don't know. This is the rumored explanation of what happened that night, the one that King was hinting at tonight. Take it for whatever it's worth.
