I bit my tongue on this one and held off until Frivolous Friday.
After trying other avenues, I find the need to resort to fellow FReepers for the answer to my current trivia obsession: What's the theme song for last year's Mitsubishi Eclipse commercial?
You've seen it: sort of edgy rock, sort of reggae - the white car is shown in quick cuts of three scenes: the three girls pulled up at the gas pump, the slender girl at the same (?) gas station patting her leg to the beat, and the sexy brunette writhing to the beat in the passenger seat next to her geekazoid date, as they pass a shiny-chrome gasoline tanker truck in a tunnel.
Song phrases like "get up, get up", "start the commotion" etc. with heavy bass beat.
Enough clues? Help! Is it a published, available song or just written for this commercial?
And I like that song, too. I've heard it so often, that I honestly think my brain believes it's an "old song" I use to know!
Television commercials have become an almighty tool for the music business, for veteran acts as well as breaking artists. Sting loaned his voice and image to Jaguar last year, and sales of Moby's "Play" album continue to rise as more of his songs are licensed to commercials and films. The latest act to reap the benefits from the trend are the Wiseguys. Featuring DJ Touche, the Wiseguys' 1998 Mammoth Records release "Antidote" went practically unnoticed until a track off the album was featured in a television ad for Mitsubishi Eclipse during the summer. "Start the Commotion" intrigued TV viewers enough to intrigue radio stations, which started spinning the song in regular rotation. Now "Start the Commotion" is dancing on the Billboard Hot 100..."

"Start The Commotion" was the sleeper hit of this summer reaching the upper levels of the Top 40 airplay chart. Thanks to the success of "Commotion" The Wiseguys debut album, The Antidote, has now shipped over 250,000 copies and counting. The video for "Commotion" was one of the most played on MTV and VH1 this summer.
I don't know why I waited weeks to ask, trying to figure it out on my own.
You were probably gun-shy, thinking that your post would somehow draw out all the Moose and Cheese Thread-Wreckers.
Michael
Oh yes, I Gotta Know. One of Elvis Presley's' first singles after he got out of the Army in 1960, written by Paul Evans of the Seven Little Girls (Sitting in the Backseat) fame, b/w Are you Lonesome Tonight, reached # 14 on the Billboard charts.
You're welcome.
Now we wait for somebody to tell us about his sister who looks like a moose . . . . . . .
There's somebody else in that car?? ;-)
Tells ya where *my* attention was...
Whatta babe that geek's got there. I gotta get that car too. Right Now! Where's my wallet?
Wait a minute . . . . . . those sneaky bastards!
As I discovered the 284th time I rewound the tape - apparently there is.
