This is the first communication that asked for money.

The group has accused Pearl of working for the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency.

Also the other emails went to CNN, whereas the one demanding money went to Karachi police. There is such conflicting stories as this all breaks, but I think the email asking for money is a scam.

I dunno. There is something very odd about this entire kidnapping. How the meeting was arranged, the links to India and intelligence communities, the phony baloney terrorist group name, the changing demands by the kindnappers, etc.

Now we have conflicting claims, apparently from the same group.

I don't think I'll believe that he's dead until they find the body, and I think there's more going on here than any of us know.

Yep. So why the WSJ is continuing this line of thinking is beyond me.

But I guess—from their point of view—it is Pearl's only hope. After not getting ANY of their demands, perhaps "telling their story" will become more important to the Pakistanis. Unlikely, but the WSJ is keeping that door open.

It means you chose to go there. If you die there, don't blame anyone else . The killers did the crime, but you handed them the opportunity. Had you realized there was a threat, and paid attention to it, you wouldn't have to be concerned about being dead, because you wouldn't be there.

I know if I walk out into a busy highway full of fast moving cars, there's a possibility I'll get run over. But I'm wise enough to wait for a clearing, or the light to change. If I chose to walk across anyway, I would be dead. Period.
