It sure is starting to look like a shoe bomber is going to be the next 'shoe' to drop.

I heard on the radio that they checked his shoes, then allowed him to put them back on...

I guess the question is what will YOU object to If you have nothing to hide?

What is 'nothing to hide'? Can anyone provide a list so that I will have nothing to hide as well? Am I obligated to hide that something that's on the list? And if I'm not hiding it is it ok then?

"I do. He could have just politely told security that he was not going to fly and be escorted out of the airport..if he did not have anything to hide."

Really, so If I walk into security and they find a bomb straped to my back, I could say, "hey you know what, screw this, I don't want to fly" And they would let me go?

What world do you live in?

Add to that anything you might have been wearing while handloading. How much you want to bet that this guy was merely a handloader or had just visited the range? He's probably as his destination right now, watching TV, and thinking "Wow! I was just at that airport. I wonder if they've caught him yet."

Considering what happened today...I would assume so.

Really, the question that I answered, you have set up an incorrect premise. The person posting the questions was asserting that the man was innocent of any evil intentions...thus my answer.

Maybe it was gunpowder? Or crack residue?

AKA Spandex, already championed by the rotund.

Here is what I have never understood. If a guy gets through security, people die and that sucks. If he doesn't get through security, everybody panics and they shut down the aiport. I would think that an attack being foiled would be a reason to rejoice, not one to panic.
Rodney, they've got to stop just letting the suspects walk away unmolested (No pun intended). I'd like to see more on this story. Looks like incompetence. Blackbird.

you must not fly much. try flying on business and have a big presentation, and oops, you stupid fool, you CHECKED your luggage, and now I am in houston, and my luggage is in Denver. (true story) had to do the presentation in what i flew in, gym shorts and ragged t-shirt. Now I NEVER check anything, I cram everything into my carryon, and the iron at the hotel is my new best friend. Never, ever check luggage, once you let go of it, its hard tellin where its really gonna go. those same goons that do security?? their brothers/sisters work in baggage.....

Why do we have morons and PC politicians in Washington setting airport security policy?....And they are self serving morons beyond a doubt!

If America wants to save lives and planes we should simply follow the Israeli method of security. It works beautifully since they have fine tuned it to be the best in the world. Their waits are relatively short and terrorists are afraid to come anywhere near.

For God's sake....follow a proven winner. Israel is surrounded by these Islamic morons and they don't lose planes or people. The American system is play acting. It would be laughable if it weren't so stupid and dangerous to our lives.

Perhaps a "speedo" swimsuit and photo id in a lanyard around my neck would save some time. Put everthing else in the suitcase. Certain radio personalities suggest filling your handcarry lugguge with a week's worth of the smelliest laundry you can find...wash it when you get to the destination. That makes the hand searches more enjoyable.

He probably walked across a garden recently fertilized with nitrates. Possibly, in the airport carpark. I'd check first with the SF airport garden maintenance section to see if they've been using ammonium nitrates on the grounds recently.

Coulda' been some of those folks I don't respect....they shoot themselves in the foot a lot with their mouths and actions.....maybe this "shoe guy" missed with the real thing......swabbed his AK with his Nike?.....reloads by foot instead of by hand?....works in an ammo factory?....ok ok...It MAY be shoe bomber #3(#1 is blowed up in NY/wing/engine/tail-jumped-off-plane, #2 got busted by brave passengers and his stupidity, and this one screwed up too).

But wait! Aren't they matching bags now to who gets on? Won't this solve all these problems?

I know, I'll go sit in the corner now.

doesn't seem to be they could get lab results back that fast on residue. Some ones just guessing.

Oh, I don't know. It doesn't take THAT long to run a GC/MS. An hour, tops, if there's nothing on the column at the time. Now doing an NAA, that takes a little longer...

I think they need to handcuff ANYONE suspicious, then if they are cleared, say, "sorry, just following procedures" and THEN release them from handcuffs! We are still simpletons when it comes to security!
