Top 10 Reasons Why The Patriots Will Winn The Super Bowl
CNN-SI ^ | 1-27-02 | vanity (of course)

Posted on 01/27/2002 6:02:43 PM PST by paul in cape

10. They will be huge underdogs (see Pittsburgh)

9. Georgia Frantiere is already getting measured for her huge rings (see also Bill Cowher ordering Hotel rooms for New Orleans)

8. The last game they lost (and barely) was against St. Louis, back when Brady was still green

7. Coach Belichick is coaching his arse off, and can game plan against anybody.

6. During their 8-game run, they shut down the top running backs in the league Curtis Martin, Edgerine James, Jerome Bettis (etc)

5. St Louis will now have to prepare a gameplan against 2 Pro-Bowl quarterbacks

4. Patriot cornerbacks have shut down every Hall-Of-Fame bound recievers (Rice and Brown, plus those whiners in Pittsburgh)

3. They've dominated every game on special teams, and make big plays

2. They have few, if any, stars. What they have is discipline, like the Marines

Which brings me to my #1 reason why they'll win the Super Bowl....

They're PATRIOTS, and of all years where patriotism has come back in vogue, THIS IS IT

It was 16 - 7, Jets. (I hated even that. Please don't make it worse than it really was.)

Anyone can "predict" that their team will win, by my reasons actually make sense (if I do say so myself).

The Green Bay and Philadelphia fans were just as sincere as you and loyal, and in the end, wrong. Come back in one week, win or lose, don't by like those other teams fans and hide out after the loss. (I know I am assuming a lot.) Who's gonna be your starting QB next week?

And the Rams are better offensively AND defensively than the Pats.

you are sooo right. The patsies, oooops, pats will find out what other teams know now - Amazing defensive team, not just an offense.

You forgot a couple things. Rams #1 Offense in NFL, #3 Defense. Thats for the season and they are playing better now than they were when they beat New England before. The Rams have only lost when they have given up the ball via interceptions and fumbles. They have done little of that in the past few weeks. Their opponents have, however.

My guess is about the same score as today.

Sorry...Pats are great, underrated.

But the Rams are better.

This could be a great game, much like two years ago.

Brady has a will to win like no other QB I have seen in a long time. Gifted and also underrated. Bledsoe is no slouch.

It could be very close...but as good as the Pats defense is (are?)...the Rams are so hard to stop. Rams have the edge in intangibles...

Rams 24....Pats 17

Isn't the Superbowl on astroturf in the Superdome? Football on grass and football on astroturf are two completely different games. It's very nearly impossible to beat a team with St. Louis's speed if you have to play them on astroturf.

Since I am not a fan of any of these teams I figure I can ask you whether you mean like the one they reversed today in favor of the Steelers. Even the TV booth personnel were stunned.

Wish I could recall the name of the player who said anytime they play the Steelers or the Raiders they know they have to prepare for the 11 men on the field plus the officiating crew. Too many games these days in which the officials "play" hardest of all.

I want to hear Rush eat crow in the A.M.. He gave the Pats no chance, calling everyone idiots that called in friday supporting them.

Point is well taken that they have 2 starting QB's.

Since predictions are cheap, I see it as end of game 24-24 score and Pats win with a FG in OT. I want this on record, too.

BTW, the best place to see the Super Bowl is in Las Vegas. Most of the Casinos have Super Bowl parties. Couple of years ago, I went to one in the Texas Casino, $20.00 got me into a room with rabid fans of both sides. Every play was cheered and boo'd. Even the commericials were cheered. They had 50 cent jagermeister shooters, 50 cent millers beer, a buffet, gave away hats and tees for everybody, and Miller gave away 6 packs all night. Top prize was 100 cases of MGD. CASES, not 6 packs! The SF cheerleaders were there, and you could get your picture taken with them (they stayed for 2 hours after the game meeting with everybody,, (lovely young ladies)(LOL).

In fact, this was 5 years ago, the Pats against the Packers. The over/under was exactly right, and bookies in LV lost all their revenue. LOL

The guy's right. To beat the Rams, the Pats will have to have a great game. But they can do it. I feel it in my bones. If you haven't been following the team all season, you wouldn't get it. The Pats have '69 Jets written all over them.

And if Antowain Smith hadn't fumbled on the Ram's three just before half-time, the Pats probably would have beaten the Rams earlier this year.

The ten point spread for yesterday's game was the best bet of the year.

The line should have been Steelers +3 instead of +10.

And after the lickin' that my boys put on Field Marshal Faulk today, they should have an easier time of it.

We noticed that. I was good and didn't pray for any injuries ;-)

My newspaper speculated on the outcome of the playoffs (beforehand of course) - and they've hit it dead on so far. They picked St Louis in the SB - by a big time score difference. Reason? They have too many good players.

Amazing defensive team, not just an offense.

I'm more concerned about the Rams D. Although wasn't Pittsburgh's ranked #1? I think the Rams were ranked #3.

Another thing you folks forget: Belichek can design a D to stop any offense.

You nailed it. As a Pats fan, I agree. But when the difference on paper is seven points, the intangibles and ball bounces can make up the difference.
