Saudis financed terror ship

Paid $10 million to Iran for arms destined for Palestinian intifada

The financing of the Karine-A arms-smuggling ship destined for the Gaza Strip came from Saudi Arabia – a shocking discovery made, according to intelligence sources, by all three teams investigating the affair: American, Israeli and Palestinian.

They established that Saudi sources put up the $10 million paid over to Iran for the weapons cargo, the $400,000 purchasing price for the vessel and another $1 million to cover miscellaneous expenses, such as hiring the crew, fuel, repairs and port charges.

The discovery rocked the U.S. and Israeli governments back on their heels. But, together with the Palestinians, each decided for its own reasons to treat the information as sensitive and keep it under wraps. For, more than any previous indication, this new fact is disturbing evidence of the uncertain internal situation in Saudi Arabia, demonstrating for the first time the willingness of influential figures in the royal house and Saudi intelligence to go out on a limb and back the Palestinian-Hezbollah-Iran connection.

Until now, Saudi Arabia was known to have refused financial aid to Yasser Arafat’s intifada, funding only the fundamentalist Hamas at its bases in Palestinian-controlled areas, Jordan and Syria.

Technically, the funds for the arms-smuggling operation were advanced by Muslim charitable societies in Jeddah, but investigators say no sums of any such scale could have been secreted out of the oil kingdom without the knowledge and consent of Saudi intelligence and government authorities – especially if they went through Abu Dhabi and Beirut.

Intelligence sources close to the investigation say that the Karine-A funding is nothing compared to the burgeoning transactions in train between Saudi Arabians and factions of the Iranian government and military intelligence. Saudi Arabians are now believed to have underwritten some of the costs entailed in transferring al-Qaida fighters from Afghanistan via Iran to safe havens in the Gulf.

Oh no, I don't excuse them. It seems to me by saying that they are as reliable as ABCNNBCBS it is a recognition that I take it with a grain of salt.

FWIW, so far this story has been omitted by ABCNNBCBS. :-)

So you're suggesting we wire up a jumb jet for remote control and fly it into Mecca, that way we can claim it was an accident?

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has granted $250 million to two Arab funds launched in October 2000 to provide $1 billion in assistance to the Palestinians. A number of Saudi committees are raising funds from the public in support of the Palestinian Intifada.

Good post. This seems perfectly believable and would explain Prince Bandar scurrying back home. With DEBKA I like to wait a day or two and see what becomes of the story. Sometimes they get it right ahead of the pack; sometimes, well, they don't.

But even if it is wishful thinking, we still have plenty of reasons to know that the Saudis are not our friends.

It's funny that everything always points back to the Saudis hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Ya know, try as I might not to, I am getting more and more suspicious of the Saudis. They have made such meager efforts to help us in our hour of need. aaa

Actually, I don't think they have made even ONE honorable effort to clamp down on the terrorists, many of whom are Saudi nationals, nor do I think they have been upfront about admitting the underhanded support they have offered to various terrorist factions.

I don't know if they do this to protect their royal arses because they are afraid of um, or if they support terrorists because they too, hate our way of life. But they sure don't mind sending their richest over here to gain American educations, and they sure don't mind coming over here to play at the horse tracks or casinos or to shop in our fabulous cities. I find them to be hypocritical and unethical. But mostly I find them to be cowards. Dictatorial, pompous creeps.

And, they treat women like $hit.

And I think they are genuinely afraid of losing the sick hold they have over women (they must be very little men inside) and the power they hold over their fellow citizens.

Onward to ANWAR and phooooooooeeeeeey on the Saudis!

See BlueDogDemo's comments in reply #48 about Iraq.

BlueDog, can you give us some more info on your saying Iraq was involved with the ship and its cargo?

BlueDog, do you think Iraq really will be a US target in the near future?

Is anyone in Washington DC on Capitol Hill, in Congressional committees or offices, in the military,in the Washington Navy Yard, in the intelligence community,in the exceutive branch, in the White House, in DOJ or in the FBI listening to you, former reporter Jayna Davis and Schippers about the Iraqi involvement in the 9/11 attacks and the OKC bombing?

Have you had any luck with Klayman and Schippers lawsuit representing the FBI agent who tried to stop 9/11?

BlueDog, have you spoken to Charles Key in OKC and AM in Chicago recently about the results of your investigations and recent interviews and efforts with Schippers and Jayna Davis?

BlueDog, we would appreciate some more of your updates since we at FreeRepublic have provided you with a lot of information that got you started in the OKC bombing investigation.

Some of us without incomes and investigation fees and salaries like you receive have donated our time and info and offered to help you and have also asked for your help.

Please remember us. We are patriotic Americans too who have paid a price to get the word out.

Arafat does not have the money to finance it. It does not mean he is not behind or involved in it, does it?

There has to be a shipper and a receiver, do you really think Arafat was going to be surprised when the arms showed up? I can see him singing "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..."

I'm reading a good book by Yossef Bodansky, "The Man who declared War on America." Its about bin Laden and around page 100 Bodansky draws some interesting connections believe the PLA, Iran and the Saudis. One thing he points out his that their is a lot of political manovering going on in the Kingdom. With Prince Abudallah supporting the fundamentalists and the Prince Bander being pro-American - a not so simply part of the world. Both parties are wrangling for the the throne, which King Faud is holding weakly.
