I have to say you are a close fit of New Yorker I ran into. People who want to hold a teach-in about NYC :). Many New Yorkers turns New York into a religious object, zealously worship and defend it. That is too much cultish for me. NYC may be a nice city or not. But if there are too many zealots inside, that fails my test :).

I will agree to disagree with you. Regional pride is something we need to revive in this country. With so many people living in McSuburban communities (Orange County, CA, Orlando, Florida are two examples I know well) without any sense of connectedness, I am pleased when I see, for example, Texans brag about their state. Remember, loyalty to one's locality used to come in third behind faith and family.
