To: The New York City Council, The New York City Fire Department
We the undersigned citizens of the United States, and concerned citizens from other nations, hereby petition the New York City Fire Department and the City of New York as follows regarding the proposed statue depicting the raising of the US flag at ground zero of the WTC attack by firefighters on September 11, 2001.
1. Immediately change the proposed statue or replace it, such that the actual events of the flag raising are accurately depicted to show those firemen who actually raised the flag doing so. Use the famous picture, shown below, of the flag raising to acurately depict the flag raising as it occurred.
Sincerely,
On the other petition ... I don't know ... I doubt a petition to force a particular type memorial will have nearly the legs this does. Here, we are trying to prevent something that almost anyone univerally sees as wrong. That issue has the legs and IMHO is the more important issue. No revisionism!
Thanks! and thanks for your support and signature on this Petition. The petition has gathered over 40,000 signatures in less than four days. The signatures are from all over the nation. Most comments are extremely heart warming. Some are vented out of frustration, and that is understandable. It seems to have gone over well. I have had maybe a dozen fairly nasty emails from liberals who take great issue with the petition and I respond indivdually to them, usually including the comment from signator 11497 which I have posted widely here on FR.What was proposed, to create a statue depicting the flag raising that took place at ground zero on 911 but depicting different people (created from models) raising the flag, was a blatant and atrocious attempt to revise history for the sake of a politically correct and culturally diverse agenda.
We are a diverse people, but in America we are also supposed to be a united people. That flag, that those three firemen raised, represents everyone of us. The planners needed look no further than the flag itself to see all races, sexes and cultures represented that come together to make us all Americans.
There is talk now of the these political and administrative planners bowing to the pressure and not creating such a depiction of the statue. If this turns out to be so, then BRAVO that we have perhaps helped influence them towards a correct decision. It is a shame that such pressure had to be brought to bear, but sadly, a reality of today's world.
In fact, they are now talking about looking at "different options" altogether.
Until a final decision is reached and it is clear that they do not intend to attempt to revise history, I believe we should keep up the pressure. So, please continue to email, tell and point others to the petition at:

http://www.dragonsfury-breathoffire.comPS - If you notice the typos and the current error with the link to the picture ... Petitiononline was contacted yesterday with all the corrections. I expect they will be implemented today or tomorrow by them. Sorry for any detraction, I typed that petition up very quickly on Tuesday morning, 1/15/02 out of my own disgust and frustration at what was happening.
Jeff, I mention this with hesitation, but you might think about extracting, with appropriate redactions, excerpts from less-than-friendly emails-- I say hestitantly because I generally think personal emails ought to remain private, and by extracting parts you are open to the charge, "well, he chose the worst line in my email to use!" But....
Some here, and some lurkers reading this, may just not know what kind of trash we get from the left at times.
Still running at a respectable clip; around 500/hour, give or take, at this late hour. 50,000 by midnight Sunday???
