This is a joke. Don't these people have anything better to do... like get a job and go to work>

It reminds me of the annual black "Million Man March" in NYC. Last year about 200 blacks showed up. I told my wife, "It will take 5,000 years before they hit the one million mark.

We're snowbirds who are going to retire in NC next year (we'll be "damn yankees"). I don't have any problem with a Confederate Flag. If Americans love their country, what's the problem? I will have the Stars and Stripes on my house in NC though, and I don't think my Southern neighbors are going to break my windows.

I am making contact with our chapter president to see if we want to organize "SC Welcoming Groups" to counter this. I like the idea of handing out information on why the NAACP boycott is wrong.

A few years ago I was driving south (PA to LA) and when I crossed into West Virginia and stopped at the rest stop a church group was there giving free coffee to travelors. They made an excellant welcoming committee for the state by leaving a very favorable impression.

I was driving through Columbus, GA not long ago and saw two old Klansman protesting Mexican immigration to the area. Indeed, both were sitting in lawn chairs with bored looks on their faces.

The boycott has been going on for about 2 years. The only ones who are paying attention are liberals and basketball tournement organizers. The naacp needs to get their name back in the press. By coming to this state last year you broke the boycott. Good work.

Thanks to the banking industry, Charlotte has many transplants from the northeast (this transplanted New Yorker will tell you that transplants from NY, NJ and Mass are THE WORST). It is also filled with cookie-cutter architecture. Go to eastern Tennesee instead. :-)

Some actions to consider...

I believe the South Carolina chapter will be holding their annual conference at Seabrook Island again this year (commonsense or dixie sass will have to provide that info). If so, as many freepers as possible should start making plans to attend. If you live anywhere along South Carolina borders, drive into SC; fill your gas tank, buy your groceries and perhaps some large-ticket items, eat at the restaurants, etc. Spend LOTS of money. I visit the Spartanburg/Greenviile area CONSTANTLY. ALWAYS fill my tank before leaving town, and ALWAYS dine at a local restaurant. Isle of Palms has a GORGEOUS beach, and a number of FINE motels...far more peaceful than Florida beaches which are plagued by 'flavor of the month' biker/college student/homosexual celebrations. Most important of all...let businesses know WHY you are shopping/vacationing/dining in South Carolina...let them know you went OUT OF YOUR WAY to do business in South Carolina as a counter-protest to the silly NAACP boycott. This is a golden opportunity for mid-Atlantic 'keyboard warriors' to stick it to extremist liberals while having fun at the same time. "Nothing could be finer than South Carolina". I heartily agree!

To tell the truth, I hate to see it come to that. I want blacks to be self-supporting and successful. But I do not appreciate having the NAACP, Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton continually whine and spout untrue charges against whites. While 'some' blacks may see the confederate flag as an insult, I believe the majority realize it's only a rememberance of southern heritage, not racism. Racism is NOT the only heritage the south has. Duh!

Perhaps when those blacks who have attained begin to feel the pinch and the prospect of losing their gains, they will appreciate their gains, realize they have made them and recognize Jessie Jackson for the jackass he always has been.

Well, if it were the NAAWP it would be called racism at the least, a hate crime for certain. Wish I had the money to go to SC and spend, spend, spend! These pigs never let up!

I think one of the reasons the naacp is doing is to make conservative's mad so they will fly more Confederate flags. The naacp can then use this to convince black people that whitey still hates them.

Lets do the math here...Blacks are 12% of the population. Say at least 1/2 are children, that's 6% of the population left. Remove the ones already in jail and your at maybe 4%, Now subtract those on welfare who would go on vacation anyway..maybe 2% of those.. So I figure that the remaining 2% (assuming that all of the rest support this BS) is attempting to terrorize by extortion the remaining 98% of the population. Now I say 98% because in SC how many blacks are employeed by the tourist industry ? How many Blacks will suffer as a result of this racist boycott ?

That's because they can't do math. Also, I've noticed these 12% of the population are those that bitch and moan 90% of the time about this country.

Every generation they (negroe, darky, black, brown, rainbow), keep renaming themselves. Their current label is "African-American." If they don't like it here, they can go back to their "Roots" about 4,000 miles East of our shores.

Confederate Battle Flag: Many of Us Fly our Flag and Remember

- from a letter to my neighbors

... it would be easier to hide it away, however, I believe it is only proper and honest to let those families who I share a small street with - a place we all call home here in South Carolina - why, I would fly the Confederate battle flag for remembrance.

The Confederate memorial at Arlington National Cemetery Honors Southern Veterans and the dead.
(Designed by a Jewish Confederate Veteran, it includes a Black Confederate as an equal alonside his white and Native American and Hispanic and imigrant Southern Comrades who fought and died for the lost cause.)

As Christians, each year we celebrate and observe the holidays of Christmas and Easter - and as American Military Veterans, my wife and I commemorate three occasions set aside to remember our veteran ancestors - Veterans Day, US Memorial Day and Confederate Memorial Day.

Re: Confederate Memorial Day

To my neighbors,

Again, this year in front of my house, I will be flying the Battle Flag that my great-great grandfather fought under in the Civil War in memorial to him and to his young son, Wilson Jenerette, who died in the war while serving the state of South Carolina.

Whatever your views may be on that war, I want to avoid any misunderstanding of my motives or intentions - this is my family and my forefathers and I honor their sacrifices. They did their duty when called upon no less than I did during the Viet Nam War and the Korean DMZ war and my wife did later during the Persian Gulf War as a U.S. Army soldier.

Given the recent political controversy that has surrounded that flag it would be easier to hide it away, however, I believe it is only proper and honest to let those families who I share a small street with - a place we all call home - why, I would set aside a day each year for this public remembrance.

I tend to be a traditionalist and along with my family we mark our calendars with key dates to remember. As Christians, each year we celebrate and observe the holidays of Christmas and Easter - and as American Military Veterans, my wife and I commemorate three occasions set aside to remember our veteran ancestors - Veterans Day, US Memorial Day and Confederate Memorial Day.

My great-great-great grandfather fought in the American Revolution at Fort Moultrie in Charleston Harbor; many of his sons and grandsons served both South and North Carolina during the Civil War - and many died in that war, I had ancestors in WWI - my father served on a B-17 in WWII - I served as a combat Infantryman on the Korean DMZ and my wife served with the US Army in Desert Storm. As a patriot, I feel it is important to honor those who put dedication to their home and country above personal ambitions and were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

I am a very simple person and do not measure all things according to what a politically popular opinion is at the moment - I try to be a good person and a considerate helpful, dependable neighbor. I hope that no one is offended by my commemoration of this memorial to my great-grandfather's family and those who lived and died during that terrible war. This is something I feel honor bound to do.

Anyway, back to the present, I hope that we all have a great year and I'm certain that we all pray that no large hurricanes come close to our street this year.

sincerely - your neighbors,

Van and Katherine Jenerette
& Christian
& Benjamin
& Drake
& Wilson
(*Note: daughter Wilson Gabrielle Berou Jenerette arrived
on 1 August. Named for Wilson Jenerette, who served with the 14th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry - he died during the war in Virgina.

"...I was driving through Columbus, GA not long ago and saw two old Klansman protesting Mexican immigration to the area. Indeed, both were sitting in lawn chairs with bored looks on their faces..."

Situations that might well end with a bang in less restrained, more passionate cultures often end with a whimper in ours.

I believe that this fundamental moderation is both our great strength and our great weakness, depending on the situation.

Might not be a bad idea, but the 'Welcome Centers' travelers encounter when entering South Carolina are ALREADY state-of-the-art. I have personally visited the one on I-26 entering from the northwest, and the one on I-95 entering from the south...the staffs at both were exemplary...very friendly, eager to help, and well-informed about touring South Carolina.

Good point re: Florida Beaches. Most beaches on the east coast of Florida are dirty and overcrowded, particularly in Volusia (Daytona), Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. Whenever I go to Key Biscayne, I can only find a postage stamp of sand surrounded by screaming kids and portly tourists from Colombia.
